I had a real good time in 07 the 20th Cup. For $200 you got a cup map of participating shops, a booklet to review the shops entries most were reasonably priced some were free or at least great vapo hits. You also got into all events such as Moe 2 nites, Tommy Chong ect. at the Melkweg and Powerzone. There's quite a lot of swag form apple pie to sweet turkish teas, umbrellas, tee shirts you name it. The best way to gather judging samples is with a group. One buys all sample. I would try to arrange a few meet ups.

I went in 07 too. Definitely not the most organized event. If you're into the music shows and whatnot, you'll probably get your money's worth. I'm not, so I was kinda bummed out about the rest of the events. The HT people were late, bus rides they promised ended up taking literally HOURS to arrive. Did get a very nice freebie bag from Barney's with some smokables in them. The GH offered a nice discount bag with some smokeables and a couple other places had t-shirts for your participation.

I went solo and enjoyed myself. I'm a bit of an introvert, but everyone was really friendly so that made talking fairly easy.

Make a list of things you want to do while you're in town and a list of things from the CC that you want to attend. Plan out each day the day before otherwise you'll end up cluster fucked all over the place not knowing what to do.

Use the trams! I walked EVERYWHERE just because the idea of being in a tube loaded with people that I've never used before kinda freaked me out. Like I said - introvert. If you're a walker too though, I would highly recommend some really good walking shoes. I had blisters the size of silver dollars on the balls of my feet. I wear K swiss classics, which have always treated my feet well, and I was still abused by the cobblestone streets.

You'll have a good time - just make the most of it and make sure you do some things that you want to do rather than sitting in a coffeeshop. Great places, but there is a lot more to see.

I'd meet up with you if I were going again this year. But the wife says no, as do my Credit Cards. FUCK!

Oh well. Have a blast. If you have any questions let me know.

BTW - check out www.oldquarter.nl EXCELLENT hotel on Warmoestraat just about 3 blocks from Centraal. Less than $400 for seven nights, free breakfast, wifi, private rooms, clean beds and some hot little waitresses at the brassarie downstairs. Pot friendly too. Best part was going up the stairs to find a naked girl standing in the shared bathroom with no intention of shutting the door or hiding herself. Very hot indeed!

now im getting an idea of what im gonna be doing...... thanks for the heads up. no disrespect but your post made a lot more sense thann the first one did. I'm just looking for the new experience that i'm having as i plan day by day. I don;t think im gonna be spending all my time thinking bout the cc. theirs lots of things that catch my attention besides the blazing and the cup. None the less a phat blunt is gonna stay rolled up in my pocket. My friend whom im going with said their are no blunts sold out their? I wonder if its true? anyone who just went let me know whats cracking.......

Blunts are a rarity, yes. But each bud tender has a rack full of jumbo sized rolling papers. All good shit too, none of that zig zag drug war supporting bullshit.

You'll be spending the next few months as I did - trying to get a feel for the place by surfing on line. he he he... Makes the whole experience that much more fun. Couple websites to check out

www.channels.nl - Check out their forums, great group of folks. I'm glasspipe over there.

www.virtualtourist.com - Good place to get all kinds of info

BTW - the museums will just about break your weed budget for a day too. 10--15e each it seemed. Worth it? That's up to you. I enjoyed it.

All in all, hotel, spending money, cc pass, passport, airport parking and airline was under $2000. Like I said, I was online CONSTANTLY looking for better deals. It can be done!!!

Be sure to check out the smaller, lesser known coffeeshops too. You'd be really suprised at what you find there compared to the "Big dogs". LOL, the GH stuff was ok. Barney's weed absolutely sucked ass, aside from the free shit. The sweet tooth I bought my first morning in Amsterdam smelled like it had been wet and then dried a few dozen times. I dummied up after that and started checking everything out before I bought it. Central CS has some really nice stuff. Check out their Shiva. NYCD from Resin was really nice too.

Ok, I'm done rambling for now.

    Later.

I have been to Amsterdam twice in the past and this fall I'm taking some friends who have never been. We were looking to book in October but then I saw the CC was in November and thought that might be cool to check out. I have no idea what goes on at the cup outside of the competition.

My question is this. What exactly does the judges pass get you? and is it worth it?

Thats awsome!! The last time I was in the Dam we went there!

Me and the wife met a couple of girls from NY and had a great time. We almost got kicked out for lighting up a doobie at intermission.

I've been there before and loved it but not sure if the City would be too crowded during the CC. I don't really want to fight for a seat in a coffeeshop if you know what I mean.

Things to do aside from getting stoned/judging in the cup.

-Museums: just a few... Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh and Anne Frank, Stedelijk, Hermitage, Van Loon, Historich, or less major like Rembrandt house or Tropenmuseum, Electric Ladyland, Houseboat Museum, Cat shelter boat (I forgot the name), FOAM photography, NEMO

-Canal cruise, Heineken Experience (newly renovated re-opens in October, Disneyland of Breweries!)

-Daytrip to Haarlem, 20 min train ride or other nearby towns

-Visit Vondelpark on a sunny day.

-Take tram No. 20, does a loop around the city.

-Walk to Waterlooplein and go vintage clothes shopping or buy other stuff there

-Walk to the Jordaan (to see courtyards-hofjes) art studios and galleries

-Carousel Pancake house after Heineken experience!!!

-Brewery Het Ij, (a brewery in a windmill)

What to expect in general: Rain, bring a H20 proof jacket not a big old winter jacket, Grey area to be crowded, Smaller than you expected hotel/hostel rooms (so you may want to pack light), small beers unless you ask for a pint, pickpockets/con artists in touristy and also non-tourist areas(as in any major city) and pushers in Red Light
Bikes everywhere, speeding trams, tram tracks!

    -Eat (Dutch Herring? Indonesian Ristaffel?)

Where would be a good area to stay during the cup? Atm, it'll be either flying pig downtown or uptown..

I read about the cup having much less venues than previous years..

    Hi Willgc138,

Last year, CC had 21 coffeeshops in their competition. Almost all of these shops, with the exception of 1 or 2 were within walking distance or a very short tram ride from the Flying Pig downtown. High Times has yet to announce the coffeeshops for this year but if I had to venture a guess you would be better off staying close to Centraal station or in/near RLD and no further south than Leidseplein.
