The two things that humans battle with throughout their whole lives. Are they the same thing? Does logic come from emotion? Does emotion come from logic? If a guy is planning on asking out his dream girl.. he can see the logic... he knows exactly how to do it... he sees no reason to get nervous about it... yet he is nervous... why is that? The emotion is not logical... so why have it? A man sees another man carrying thousands of dollars in a briefcase through a dark alleyway. Logicaly.. he knows that mugging this man will mean that he will have far more money and will be better off... yet emotionaly he feels it would be a bad idea... he would feel guilty. Yet again... the emotion is not logical... he would benefit from having the money... yet he feels he shouldn't mug the man... why is that? Social conditioning? Do most people live a life of logic over emotion? or vice versa?
Actually, at least in my little noodle, there seems to be an area where the two converge. I don't make decisions based on logic or emotion. It's intuitive. I want something. My repressive function says shouldn't or vice versa...all that's left is my nose at the H-hour of execution.
women are incapable of logic due to the size of their brains the smaller the brain, the less room for things logic got pushed aside because we need to be able to keep all those cooking recipes
I dont think so. Emotions come from personal experiences in situations, logic is the understanding of what should happen in those situations. I think they both have their own side of the brain, and probably do communicate at times.
So do we only feel guilty about mugging someone because of a past experience where we have been caught and punished?
There is no logic in that. Of course it wouldnt be directly related to the present situation, maybe when your a kid someone stole your lollipop, that could be the reflection.
maybe. No one really know how much of our lives are controlled by the functions of the brain compared to the conditioning of our culture. If I had to wager I'd say that it was all brain. ALL. And only because there are too many similarities between unrelated cultures, and a feeling of right and wrong is one of those UNIVERSAL human characteristics which has been found in EVERY SINGLE culture that has ever been studied. So you may feel guilty because the brain makes you feel guilty, or you may feel guilty cause you're christian.
There has to be a balance.. If you think about it, the extremes of both sides will lead to bad things.
logic and emotion aren't the only contributing factors to how we decide on an action. in the mugging scenario, obviously, morals come into play. in every day stuff, experience is important, so is motivation - ie, how badly do you want something. etc.
'Morals' mean nothing without emotion. I'd have no problem killing someone if i felt no emotion about it.... why follow a moral code if you have no urge (emotion) to do so? Thats like me saying.... Jimmy P... you must never eat cereal again... you wouldn't bother keeping to it.. because there is no emotion to keep you to it.. let alone logic.
