working for the Bureau of Land Management in colorado.. on this black-footed ferret reintroduction project. also doing stuff with prairie dogs and badgers.. and sage grouse. i don't know whether or not to take it :/ it sounds awesome, but i really want this other job working with black bears around here where i live... so i dont know whether to hold out for that or not! and he wants me to tell him my answer by monday! ohh man...
Shit id love to work with animals. I wouldnt advise working with bears though, you dont want to get eaten.
i won't know about the bear thing until like, the 19th i think.. i should try to talk them (Hoopa Tribal Forestry-bear thing) into hiring me early Vance, yeah i love working with animals. its hard.. at least the schooling.. but super fun. don't worry i wont get eaten, we use lots of drugs to knock them out before doing any sampling
Oh man, I'm so jealous! Both those jobs sound awesome! I would definitely use your leverage on the Hoopa people. Just tell them straight up that you've got another offer, you'd prefer their position but you don't want to end up unemployed. It's the truth and it makes perfect sense; they'll have to understand. I think the bear job sounds slightly cooler too - and you wouldn't have to move. You don't actually have to drug bears! You just go up to them and walk extra cute and say things like "Who's my little bearmuffin? Who's the cutest widdwe bear in the whole woods! You are!" That totally works.
why not talk to the bear people and tell them you really want that job but you got offered this one and see if maybe they'll give you an early answer? edit: oh wait, Molly beat me, and her post was much more elegant than mine. as usual.
by the way, ferrets are awesome. I can see how you'd rather work with the bears, but who could be unhappy with ferrets?
Good advice, in fact that's actually what i ended up doing My buddy is going to talk to the bear guy today and lemme know whats up.. Hahahh walking up to a bear..yikes! i think they probably like the drugs... its a fuckin Ketamine / Diazepam mix!
Good idea you can use your new job offer as leverage against your first offer, but it can sometimes be a dangerous game :H Hotwater
Ha! In your face, Jimmy! *high fives all around* I should probably mention that I have no experience with jobs or bears, so I'm making this all up. I mean, obviously the advice about bears is just common sense - everyone knows that dangerous carnivores respond well to baby talk. Let us know how it goes, Pink! I really like animals an awful lot, so I'm pretty excited about this.
