Don't want to over fertilise plants so is an organic soil best? Went to Homebase and only soil they had (not including composts) was Miracle Grow soil, which said it had enough miracle grow mixed in to feed for 3 months. Is that acceptable? Could be the wrong types of nutrients... What is more, had no mention of its PH level. Any help?
I never used miracle grow soil myself but i've been hanging around grow forums for about 3 years now and i've read a ton of posts that say miracle grow 'moisture control' is pretty good. I say use it. For a plant food, 'tomorite' is good all the way through veg and flower.
Dont miracle grow tant the smoke?. Thats wat I've been told so have never use it. A good qualitie multi purpose compost with added perlite and baby bio is good enough anyway.
All 'ready to use' plant feeds provide nutrients in a chelated form which the plants can uptake and use ... both organic and chemical. Miracle grow plant food happens to be quite a strong chemical feed which is great for big hungry plants but maybe too strong for seedlings. The problem with chemical feeds is they can leave a residue of salts in the soil if you feed too heavily and this can change the electro conductivity of the soil and can possibly prevent the plant from taking up certain nutrients, also a heavy salt build up can cause 'reverse osmosis' which actually draws water OUT of the plant. It is good normal growing practise to FLUSH your soil with PH balanced water every couple of weeks (if growing in pots) ... thereby washing any salt buildup away, but this also washes everything else from the soil too. A sensible grower will keep an eye on the 'greenness' of the plant, being careful not to overfertilise and this is true not just for miracle grow plant feed but ALL plant feeds. Also in the last couple of weeks before harvest, many growers flush the soil and terminate feeding altogether so the plant can use up it's reserves of nutrients (nitrogen is the main nutrient we're talking about here), and therefore there will be less nutrients in the dried product, providing a smoother, less 'tainted' smoke. I've used miracle grow plant food in the past quite happily, often using a half strength solution instead of the reccomended solution given on the packet. But we are talking about miracle grow compost ... NOT the plant feed. I find baby bio plant feed is a great mild feed for seedlings, but a bigger plant will need a stronger feed.
Google Grow well solihull and mail order biobizz all mix or somthing. Very discrete and reliable. I wouldnt waste my time or money on anything from homebase or whatever.
