Haha ok you're making me feel better bout not seeing it right away like I kinda wanted to. I do know that he ultimately ends up dead, so I imagine thats as much of a spoiler as any.
Sean penn did the story justice. I'm a big fan of the book, and not a fan of Sean Penn's but he really did a great job. I almost can't believe how much of the book as in there. It ws like reading it for the first time all over again
I really enjoyed it. I think Emile Hirsch is a great young actor and Sean Penn did an amazing job. I liked that it was all shot on site and Emile Hirsch did all of the stunts himself. I was disappointed by the fact that anyone I talked to that had seen it before me was all "It changed my whole view point on life". And it didn't for me. But I've met people like "Alexander Supertramp" before, so I've already got that stuff in my head. I don't understand why the story (book or movie) inspire people to go to Alaska and try it. He died of starvation. Why would you want to try that? I mean, there was some simple ignorance in him that led to that.. but still. It didn't make me think it was a good idea.
I think the movie and the book are both beautiful. They were meant to be honest, not to be anything else. Chris McCandless had the perspective that so many people have, but are afraid to live. Just because he didn't execute it perfectly doesn't mean he's a moron. He just made a couple of innocent mistakes.I didn't think the movie was too long. There was still a lot of stuff from the book that wasn't in the movie. Sure, it lead to his death, but you're going to die sometime. And how many people can say they even attempted to live unburdened and experience the world? It's just too bad he didn't realize his lonliness until it was too late. I've been planning this trip out west for a few months now. I'm leaving in June when my 2 jobs and school are finished. I was thinking 2 or 3 months. After seeing this movie and the movie "My Life Without Me," I am thinking it's going to be a life change, not just a road trip. It's just nice to know that there are people out there who care enough about what Chris believed in that a movie like this even made it to the big screen. Even if a million people see it and are effected by it enough to go home and give away a few things they don't need, or decide not to buy a piece of crap they don't need but may have bought otherwise, that's a hell of a positive change in the world.
I haven't seen the movie yet. It never came to my town in the theater so I've been waiting for DVD. I really want to see it. The book is in my top 5 favorites though.
I just saw it the night before last and I was surprised that a big corporation could produce such a down to earth movie. I've always thought of doing something like what Chris McCandless did but think I'm deffiniely going to now, after college. I'm also going to read the book next time I get to the library.
I went and got the DVD today and watched it. It was really good. It's been a few years since I read the book, but from what I remember it was pretty close.
such an amazing and inspirational movie but i definitly recommend reading the book too becuase a lot more things are explained in the book.
awesome movie i saw it in the theater after i read the book then i bought it on dvd the day it came out i love it
I watched the movie and then read the book the movie was OK it dramatized a lot of stupid things but that’s typical of movies. I liked the book a lot more it was well written I thought. I think the guy could of also just starved to death with out the poison seeds. He was 112 days with mostly squirrels he probably had 10 days of moose meat or so. But it takes more energy to go out and kill a squirrel and prepare it in that kind of country then it would give you back, I could see how someone could starve to death like that. I think the guy had some experience in the desert and thought he could survive off of the same methods as he used in the desert. But it takes so much more energy to survive in a place like the Alaska tundra then a southwestern desert. I think he was just green and over estimated himself, he didn’t even have an axe or a bow saw he had no clue. Good book I love stories like that, It is like a dead mans tale.
I finnnnnaaaallllyyy got to watch it. I actually watched it a couple times now. I really liked it and I'll admit it, I let a tear slip. Good movie.
I watched the movie last night...I can't get it out of my head. I'm ordering the book. I'm sure it's a lot better. I'll be needing some tissues!
and what do you expect from a 15-million-dollar movie? apart from that, the story is heart-warmin'... it gives you the sense of total peace, you know... my point of view is that there are worse movies in the theaters that deserve less than "into the wild"...
