so this morning i was sleeping and my tv turned on and it was the news...i heard something about cops not arresting for posession (in small amounts) or pot, instead just giving out tickets, like for underage smoking because of the many courtcases (and state money)...any one else hear of this phantastic news?

Yea it's called de-criminalization. Many states have had this law for several years. However the underage part, i was not aware of.

i know this story may sound ridiculoulsy (i know i spelled that wrong) made up, i assure you it's not...

over the summer i stayed in st louis with my uncle so i could work at his restaraunt, and my family had been all pissed off at me for smoking pot in my home town...so, of course, i smoked down in the suburbs of st louis (st peters to be exact).

One night we picked up some chicks and went down to a park, loaded up a bowl, and almost smoked it when these two flashlights shone on us. I shoved that pipe in my pocket as fast as i could... anyway we got searched and they found us with five grams of weed and a pipe and we were driving, we had already smoked that day...my friend was driving, actually, and he didn't even have a liscense and they said they should've got me in trouble for that too...but they were about to arrest me or whatever, and they were gonna call my parents, but i told them i was living with my aunt and uncle, and they decided to just take the weed and pipe and let me go, no phone call or anything...

long story short: i got caught high with weed, admitted to driving, and they just took the weed and let me drive home

    The police do not care.

    They just want the weed,
So they can smoke their share,
And sell the rest back on the streets.
    They know what's going on.

    That's Hikaru's opinion, at least.

In the 70's (I believe), about 13 states passed Decriminlization laws....I think a few of them made it an arrestable offense again though.... We aren't any closer then we were then. In legislation right now, There is a few state-bills for medical marijuana, but I don't believe there are any currently for decriminilization, I could be wrong though.

The Federal Gov't isn't helping at all though... There is a bill in ?Congress? now that says if you get pulled over, and they drug test you, and there is ANY drugs in your system, you can be given a DUI... Smoke pot on saturday- Pulled over Tuesday-DUI ticket. GAY.
There was also something about if states don't inact that law then they lose their Federal Highway Funding (I have gotta think that's unconstitutional, too much power to the federal gov't to force a state into passing a law)

It's on NORML.ORG somewhere, and a few other sites.

I think the new law is going to be for Chicago only, not all of Illinois.

...and I live in the state that has a law saying it's illegal to sell/buy glass 'stuff.' Even though there is a few places to get glass...

I' never got worse than a warning for pot, in Texas. a few times the cops just took the bud and told us to not get caught next time, or do it at home. Never been caught with pot in Alabama.

It's probably because they are just misdemeanor charges and that's probably their first offence.
