Hi Grim! I live in Catasauqua. I didn't know there are other hippies in the valley! Why would ANYONE want to leave the Lehigh Valley? Since Allentown is so GREAT and all... lol I moved up here from Ft Lauderdale, FL. Unfortunatly, my only time spent with the Rainbow Family was in Ocala. Luckily, this was before the local autorities started getting bad. If u ever want to go to a gathering or know of any cool hippy stuff around here, let me know! I been here 4 years and so far I've only seen a local drum circle.
i'll be 22-23 if you leave at the time you say. plenty old to go on my own, save my own money, and be a part of this wonderful idea!! i LOVE it.
this could be fun, seems hard to do to just let everything go...but I guess that's part of the challenge and the beauty of doing such a thing
yeah, it reminds me of when my boyfriend and I ran off to Arizona on a sort of a whim... best decision we ever made, and we're still here!
That's pretty wonderful One of the things we've talked about in regards to this is hoping we have someone along who speaks fairly well in the major languages. Hah, well I do have my misgivings about what has happened to this area...but there's still some redeeming qualities. I'd enjoy finding a local gathering, but have rarely even heard of any - let alone seen or attended them. Also, I saw you on our forum...glad to have you You're absolutely welcome At the risk of sounding like every adult you've ever met(I am by no means an adult, nor will I ever be), I'll say that between now and then you'll likely be on a whole different wavelength in a lot of ways. If you're still interested, we're definitely interested in you joining in. By all means, jump into our forums(link in my last post) and see if you like what you see. Exactly. It's about dreams, adventure, and what life is supposed to be. If it doesn't work and after a month or two we can't do it anymore...fine. At least we managed to touch real magic. Good! HEaring about adventures like that working gives me more hope for this one not ending in a trainwreck.
It was the best decision we ever made. We both couldn't survive financially in California (our home) and we were both struggling with a lot of stress. So we decided to move to Arizona, where his mother is. We spent all of our money getting there, and had to leave a lot behind because we had to fit everything in the back of his 240SX. His mom took us in and despite our having nothing, with her help we got on our feet and started a new life! Good Luck!
Alright, the other day I put together a bulletin for Myspace that is pretty much all the basics of the Journey, and I thought I'd put it here too. The Journey Alright, it's been a while since I made a post about things...so this bulletin is going to be divided into two parts. First a brief section explaining the main questions about this trip of ours, and second a piece on where everything stands right now, what we still need to figure out, and so on. If you're familiar with this thing, feel free to skip ahead to the second part. If you haven't got a clue what I'm going on about, give this a read and see what you think. As always, any and all comments, suggestions, criticisms, and so on are greatly appreciated and encouraged. What? - We call it the 'Journey', but what it is is pretty simple. We don't get a lot of chances to chase dreams and have adventures anymore. Life doesn't throw a lot of magic at most of us, and so when you have a chance to get a bit...you should run with it. I'm going to drop everything and just travel a while, because that's my dream. That's all. I want to see the world, I want to meet the people in it, and I've invited anyone who wants to come along. Where? - The trip will almost certainly start in the US, wherever I happen to be at the time. Odds are that will be along the east coast, I'm thinking maybe at the beach somewhere. Where it goes is anyone's guess...there are some places I'd certainly like to see but I don't have a specific route planned out. When? - In about four years: the spring of 2012. I haven't got a specific date yet. I don't know how long it will go...the point of this is that for at least a little while we can let go and not have deadlines. Even if I stop going, it doesn't mean anyone else has to. Who? - I am going. Others have said they will come, or may come, or may join along. Anyone who wants to come is invited, and I sincerely would like some company. Why? - Why not? It'll be a chance for some fun and adventure, something to really let you see the world, meet people, and learn. If it lasts a week and we give up, so be it. No harm done. That's the basic questions. If you have any others, just send em to me and I'll gladly answer. Where things stand now is simple...we're still going, we're still excited, and we're still glad to hear from anyone else who would like to come. We now have a forum up, which is at SNIP Registration is free and takes about 30 seconds. We're using that to work out a lot of the details about things, so if you have any thoughts - drop on by! The main debate right now is how we are going to travel. Cars seem easiest, yet with gas prices rising, the question of keeping them fueled becomes a rather looming one. The other options involve getting one big vehicle, walking, or biking. All of these have their benefits and drawbacks, so by all means anyone with something to contribute to this should chime in. I also have a new project I want to work on for this, which is to create a logo or design of some sort to be an insignia for the trip. I don't have too many ideas yet, but as I'd like to start doing fliers and banners and such for this thing I want to have some sort of logo for it all. Annnnd that's about it. Hope you enjoyed.
Hello Grim, I have done what you want to do. I went on my journey and found what I was seeking so I wish you peace. Life is not a circle but a spiral we may end up where we began- but not quite and much changed. EDIT
It's quiet interesting that i have come across this thread, for only a few days ago i wrote in short my own such story in a different part of the forums: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=308846 Ever since that trip my life has changed so much, and that experience was literally a lifetime in 4 weeks. And also an interesting thing is that i used to live in PA in West Chester near Philly. So good luck to you my friend, and if perhaps the spiraling paths of life bring me back over there in 4 years i would very much be interested in the idea.
Alright, apparently the powers that be here have determined linking to a forum of a couple dozen members set up specifically for my trip is dangerous to the well-being of this forum, so if anyone has read over this thread and is interested in the forum, it's in my profile as my homepage, or just PM me for the url. Thanks
Time for an update! The trip is about three years off, and I'm starting an email list to organize a little better. If you're coming along, jumping in later, or just interested - drop me a line and we can put our heads together. You can pm me here, but it'll be better if you just e-mail me at: grimdream@gmail.com thanks!
In about 5 years I should definitely be done with college and this sounds like something that my entire life has been leading up to so im down..currently...who knows what the future will bring, but I am definitely interested. p.s. hopefully i can hop on the ride once i graduate college haha
2012 is the year i get out of college. I might be able to join for at least a bit of this. But at any rate, I just came across this thread and it sounds like something i could definitely get behind.
The journey is such a lovely and exciting concept. "Dropping off the grid" is finally something I am working toward in my own way. I do have a number of pets that are dear to me, so I need to make my personal journey something that will include them. I want to wish all of you who venture to go on the journey great times. And DO IT while you can!
I'd like to do this. I suppose it's a possibility... There is much to be done. We'll have to see. But I can't wait to see the outcome! Good on you.
I would love to do this! I dont see myself taking off too far right now though so I'll have to see how my life is going by then. Maybe I'd just join you guys when/if your in CA
