My friends uncle had this played as he was on the conveyor belt into the furnace... Great choice, I thought.
It had good lyrics, but it is probably the worst song ever made. I can picture lenny in his mother's basement on a drum machine and casio synthesiser recording it
In his mother's basement? By the time the guy recorded that song in 1987-88, he had no doubt long been a millionaire. I can agree with the overuse of keyboards on his later albums, though. It gives the music a sort of cheap feel that isn't quite as genuine sounding as his earlier albums, which are my favorites. Still, I like the prophetic lyrics of his later albums. The man is no doubt tapped into the true reality of this world.
I just think going from Songs from a room and slowly lowering yourself to low grade synth pop is sad.
Yeah, I don't disagree with you there. I think his later albums have little to offer, aside from the lyrics.
Ah we're lonely, we're romantic and the cider's laced with acid and the Holy Spirit's crying, "Where's the beef?" And the moon is swimming naked and the summer night is fragrant with a mighty expectation of relief brilliant Hallaluja is a million times better done by buckley though.
Oooh oooh, one song i really did like, even if it was backed by a drum machine was "In my secret life"...thats really beautiful.
Here is another song I really like from one of LC's later albums. While it's less synthesized than his 80s stuff, it still suffers from that sleek, overproduced, commercial sound. The lyrics are phenominal nevertheless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjtE2-dLjSs
