I've this hole in my wall that acts as a place to hold posters and misc. stuff but I'd like to put it to a more practical use however I fear it may be too small. Its 40" high, 18" deep and 9.5" wide approx. I only plan on growing one plant as I'm just starting out but is this area even suitable? If so what would you recommend regarding lighting, strain (needs to be stealthy) etc.

Also, can anyone recommend any good online tuts?

    Thanks,
    S.

I was hoping ye would :). What are the average dimensions for a single small plant?

    Thanks for the google

Edit -- I just found this so my area should be fine, cool. Although thats a hydroponic system, time to read about those now I guess :)

Dimensions for a plant vary as the grower wishes. For example, you can put freshly rooted clones in at 3" tall or a 6' monster.

I would go for a nice squat indica phenotype. Rule of thumb is count on the height increasing by at least half of the height of the plant when flowering is introduced (some sativa phenos will grow alot more in height than that).

There is a thread in here where the grower is planning a stealth grow in a gutted PC, small hydro system and cfls.

Something like Northern Lights? Also, are male plants of any use to smokers or are they just good for throwing out?

Northern lights is a good hearty strain and would make a good choice very forgiving plant. I am sure some other people might be able to recommend better like Lowrider II. I gave up growing many years ago and really preferred sativas (Haze and variations)

Males are good for seeds and can be processed for a small amount of bubblehash. (<- hee hee thank God women cannot do that to us!!)

I'm also curious about nutes, are they necessary? I've read quite a few guides in the past 48 hours, some make nutes out to be huge while others don't mention them at all. For something like NL would they be of huge importance?

it would be a very tight fit once u get a coupple lights inside and deffinitaly need ventilation in that amount of space. its probably possible to do though. nutes are pretty important for optimal growth but if u dont feel comfortable just go out and get a bag of mirical grow potting soil with some mixed in already, it should last a grow. and a male wouldnt be too much use to u unless u had a female plant to make the seeds.

If you are going hydroponic and dont use any nutes you are very stupid.
