I will try this one... Chicken and hamburgers. (assuming they are not imported from Central America) How about lousy tasting beer?
I am not sure the meat is from here anymore and then we have to figure out the flour to make the buns ect. Same for the beer, after looking at all the stuff that goes into a can of Buds piss water ect was is all made in the US?
Well we make some great weapons. Although that is now being outsourced. How about a poor global image? We make that all the time.
I will grant you micro brewed is good. There is also a good variety. However the vast majority of the mass marketed beer in the US is lousy. It is a sorry excuse for beer.
I suppose it is a little discouraging to shit like that. But its just like Germany. How many products do you see with a Made in Germany tag on them? Zero. But they still top the list in dollars from export. I bet there ain't no 'made in vietnam' sticker on your hospitals MRI machine. How many dvd players do you think you'd have to sell to match the dollar you get for one of those puppies?
Theres a lot of industry still here in the US. We just assemble things rather then build the components.
There used to be a dvd plant near me. They just moved their production to Mexico and shut down. Nobody wants to pay over $9.99 for a dvd, so what can they do? BTW-Most of the workers at the plant didn't get paid all that much and it was not unionized-in case anyone wants to blame unions.
Labour rates are higher in the US. This is normally neutralized by investing more heavily in capital to increase productivity. Too bad the US has a savings rate approaching zero (from the wrong side).
