hey everyone after spending all ngiht looking up dreads i found this forum and reading through is giving me lots of info... but just a few questions before i get my backcombing done !

i have thin hair and am aiming for a mix of medium to above medium thick dreads, can anyone tell me how big i should section off my hair? any other tips to get em more on the thick side? my other question is sort of embarassing but anyway i notice that if i dont wash my hair for a day it will already start to smell on the bad side of course (scalp not hair) :) i've read that its good to not wash your hair for a good 2 weeks after you've started. will it mess me up if i wash every other day? or is there something i can 'put' on my head to help cover up that smell im pretty sure it will get sooo funky if i don't wash it for a whole 2 weeks!

and i wont need rubber bands either, right? i plan to have my helper section one and backcomb it, moving onto the next i really like the nappy random look on dreads, i'll just need to invest in a comb? soap for when i do wash my hair?

ill check back for responses gonna go read up some more, see ya.

when i first started out i dabbed a bit of tea tree oil on my finger and rubbed it into my scalp, you can cover your hair with a hat if you want to. But yes washing them too regularly at the beginning can hinder them from knotting up

If my hair starts to smell, I stand near some incense. That covers it up and makes it smell nice.

Just wash when it feels like it needs it.

Be warned, the backcombing WILL unravel. Maybe a lot. Dont rebackcomb, you'll fuck up your hair. After you backcomb, just leave it alone other than washing.

they do tighten after u wash, thats when they knowt the most thats why u should rip after u wash
u dont gotta wait 2 weeks to wash, every other day though maybe too much
chances are when u switch to a naturtal soap like bronners ya wont get that stinky scalp (whats that from though?
and how the hell do u smell ypour own scalp?

yeah i washed like the day or day after i got dreads
people told me not to but there was no way that i was going to wait that long
if i could go back, i would have washed my hair in dr. bronner's and gotten used to the infrequent washing first and then went on to dreads.
    w/e. no big deal.
just wash whenever you feel like it. i normally try to endure itchiness for one day at most and then wash. you'll slowly start washing it less and less.
don't worry too much. it's just hair. you always get more chances if something disastrous happens =)
