    hey guys im just starting into my first grow and i am using 4' florescent shop lights for my vedge room plus some CFLs. i was just wondering if anyone has compaired using plant/ aquarium lights to the normal tube types like cold/warm. the normal lights are rated at a coupple hundred more luminus but the plant lights are more color specific. any thoughts?

    Yer right! I'll do more research, but for now, in my experience;

    Blue = very green healthy but little vertical growth

    Add cfl's and they start vertical growth as well, at least thats what happened in my veg room:>)

    I find other way round red slightly leggy and blue small but well formed.

    thats why you mix them and theys good, aquarium tubes are kinda pricey.

    I use a mixture of daylight and sunlight florescent tubes in my veg room and had the same plus plant and aquarium tubes in bud room. They worked surprisingly well. I have since upgraded to t-5's in the bud room with red and blue bulbs and they kick ass

    6500k is for veg and 2700k is for flowering.

    some people mix at a 2:1 ratio during each respective cycle. if using cfl bulbs keep em like 2-4" away from plants. this will help keep the plants from stretching.
