This kid I know made some opium out of poppy pods, and wanted me to ask some questions he had. I of course would never manufacture drugs. First, is the lemon juice acidity really important if using tap water, because he didnt use any. He didnt have a grinder, so he just crushed up the pods with a rock, will that effect the final yield? How hot can the water get without
burning the morphine off? The final product was slightly brown, and he suspects that may be due to heat. Thats all I can remember right now.

opium is brown. That's probably why the mixture was brown.

doesnt mean much though, could be brown yet still contain barely any goodies :-( if you used really hot water it could have destroyed it, or maybe the batch of poppies could just be low potentcy so the only way to find out is to try it :D

how hot is too hot? we almost-boiled the water, and then poured it over the pod mash. When we tried to smoke it, it sort of crusted up, as opposed to melting. does anyone have a way to smoke opium easily?

No, that would be retarded, I just skipped from one topic to another because I was high. When we smoked the final result, it bubbled and formed a crust, instead of melting into a liquid, which is what I thought would happen. Acga5, did you boil water, then pour it over the mash? How hot did you simmer the water off? I think the problem is when I simmered the water off, it got too hot, and started to vaporize some of the opium, and now it burns funny. Is there a temperature to keep it under? I heard 85 C (185 F), but I dont know if thats true.

it should take hours to simmer, 85C is a little dangerous, just put it half way between low-medium, just enough so you can see the water being vapourized but not too quickly lol, do NOT pour boiling water on it just hot water.

This was observed by SWIM in 1992:

    courtesy of opioids.com

"Before opium is smoked, it is usually 'cooked'. Uncooked opium contains moisture, as well as soil, leaves, twigs, and other impurities which diminish the quality of the final product. The raw opium collected from the opium poppy pods is placed in an open cooking pot of boiling water where the sticky globs of opium alkaloids quickly dissolve. Soil, twigs, plant scrapings, etc., remain undissolved. The solution is then strained through cheesecloth to remove these impurities. The clear brown liquid that remains is opium in solution, sometimes called 'liquid opium'. This liquid is then re-heated over a low flame until the water is driven off into the air as steam leaving a thick dark brown paste. This paste is called 'prepared', 'cooked', or 'smoking' opium. It is dried in the sun until it has a putty-like consistency. The net weight of the cooked opium is generally only eighty percent that of the original raw opium. Thus, cooked opium is more pure than its original, raw form, and has a higher monetary value."

Note the reference to boiling water.

So, you dont think the opium being in boiling water will affect it too much?

cool. What about smoking it? Ive had no luck with vaporizing it, but Ive heard smoking is wasteful. I got pretty good effects from rolling some with pot crumbles and smoking that. Is there an easy way to vaporize the opium without burning myself constantly?
