I saw the movie last night and I was horrified. I felt so much hatred being taught to young children if someone isn't Christian. One child said that nonbelievers made him feel yicky and as if something was missing from them. When I have children, my emphasis will be on love and compassion for all people, and when they get older, they can decide if they want to join a religion or not. I felt compassion for those poor children who had no choice- it's like Muslims teaching their children hatred of America at a young age. These children don't have a chance. Peace and love
i was raised in a baptist church and it was really rough on me. my mind was torn up all the time, everything was always so conflicted between how I was raised and how I knew things should be. It really fucked me up. I've never heard of that movie though. Is it supposed to be serious? Or a parody of christianity? cuz that sounds pretty out there.
No it is a very serious movie! Its terrifying actually! I highly recommend you watch it. The whole thing totally blew me away.
Yea I heard about that documentary some time ago, but never got around to watching it. But that's ok, Im sure I can imagine!
so......what's their problem? why do they teach kids stuff like that. sounds really weird. i might try and find it.
These poor kids are going to be particularly confused, because they're being taught that Christianity is the very opposite of what it is. The idolization of President Bush is particularly disturbing--idolatry at its worst!
It is a documentary. The woman in charge of the children's program uses the film to attract others to attend her functions/camps. Some people in my religion class said that they saw these groups as passionate, but I disagree. Passionate does not mean that you claim your way is the only right way and everyone else is wrong and will be eternally punished. Ghandi was passionate, the Dalai Lama is passonate, Martin Luther King Jr was passionate, as many others have been throughout the ages and these people promoted unity, brotherly love, and tolerance for others. Some people on the film said they believe the world is "us vs them" as in "Christians vs non-Christians." There is no room for any other point of view, even other Christians. One girl said that all other churches were "dead churches" b/c they didn't scream for Jesus, dance, and speak in tongues. She said God was not present in those churches. The homeschooled children were taught extremely misleading to down right lies/ false claims- how will these children survive iin a college situation? It reminded me of a scene in "The Waterboy" when Adam Sandler was in class and answered a question w/ "Mama said alligators are onery (sp?) b/c they have all those teeth and no toothbrush." Peace and love
Just so you guys know, you can find this movie on youtube broken up into nine segments. Just search "Jesus Camp" lol hippiechick, im with you. im watching it right now.
Yeah, that was one of those movies where I just kinda sat there with my mouth open wondering what's wrong with people. I can't help but wonder how those kids are going to be as adults.
The most interesting thing I learned was that Satan likes to play aroun with the electronic equipment and Jesus name will keep it functioning.
Thinking about Revelations, wasn't the anti-Christ supposed to be a charismatic leader who convinced many people of his false message in the name of God and Jesus? I kind of find this interesting that this so-called prophecy can be linked to this movement. These people are using Jesus' name to perpetuate fear, distrust, and hatred towards religious, political, and academic groups that do not agree w/ their views. If Christ's message was love, then it seems to me that the anti-Christ would spread hatred, and if he or she said they came in the name of Christ, then the hatred would be directed at non-Christians. What does anyone else think? I don't believe this prophecy is true in any way, I just find the parallels to be interesting, especially when it seems that Protestants are into the whole Revelation thing- maybe Evangelicals are not. When I was Catholic, I never heard anything about Revelations, so I may not be 100% correct on the parallels between the two. Please correct me if I am wrong. I think the only thing we can do is to extend love to these people, to show these children that love is universal and that God has no religion. Conquer hatred w/ love, defeat lies w/ truth, and be a shining beacon for others, not through words, logic, or arguments, but by taking action w/ love and compassion in our hearts. Peace and love
I would not link evangelicals or protestants generally with the whole Revelation, anti-Christ etc movement. Millenarianism is the gneral term for the idea that we are to be expecting a 1000yr reign of Jesus on Earth preceeded by a period of tribulation. I think why a lot of conservative Protestants (I do not use the term Evangelical or Fundamentalist because those are movements, not so much groups. You can have evangelical Catholics that place a high emphasis on witnesing, etc). are attrackted to the things found in Revelation is that it allow an individual to feel special. You do not belong to the group that has to get stung by the human-locust-scorpions and get zapped into heaven instead (the doctrine of the Rapture which is uniquly protestant)? I think your take on the Rev antiChrist is interesting, but I agree and I do not think that i specificall refers to anything in particular.
Before all of the bad stuff in Rev, true Chrisians will disppear from earth zapped up into the sky to meet Jesus.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapture_(Protestant_belief) If you have heard anything of the Left Behind series, that is based primarily in Rapture theology. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_Behind_(series) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_behind Some theologins debate whether the rapture is a sound doctrine.
i saw this movie, and it scares me so much because I was raised in a Pentecostal church and I lived it. I was never the kid raising their hands and praising Jesus, I always knew there was something wrong with it, but even to this day i still feel some kind of odd guilt. I think there are many good lessons that Jesus taught, and that Christianity teaches, but when you get into brainwashing children, then it's just plain wrong. Free will my ass. Sure, you can have free will but you have to choose God or you will burn in hell. Scary shit.
This is what i've been thinking about for a long time. It seems that the churches keep leaning more and more towards political agendas, bigotry, and money, and lose sight of the original message of love and peace. I dont know where all this dogma came from over the years, but it seems that they attach to all these rules that make them feel good about themselves, instead of accepting people for who they are. At the same time, Christianity has for the most part totally lost it's spirituality completely. My neighbors the other day were arguing about whether yoga was evil or not. It was ok if you only did it as exercise, but evil if you considered it meditatioin, that's what they came up with. Well, my God is not bound in leather. I really dont understand the mentality of these people. It's pretty scary, and it gets more militant and unaccepting with each passing day. There could be nothing further from Jesus' original message. I dont know about prophecies are going to come true or not, but if the prophecy in Revelations is to happen, this is one hell of a good way to do it. Bet no one will see this one coming. Ah....nothing like divine irony...
havent seen that movie but had a freind who grew up in that kinda envoironment, today hes in his 40s but emotionaly and socialy hes maybe 8 growing up in that kinda mind control type crap really screwed with his whole life i remember reading something for a guy from a group like that maybe same 1, but he described how to him every word commimng from anyone outside the group, even words like i love you, or the most peaceful of messages sounded like the barking of demons everything that wasnt hell and brimstone judgment and damning screaming wavin as book in the air...they couldnt listen to reason logic thought song rejoicement any other idea of connections to higher things.. think about this all people if there is 1 god as every1 likes to think and god wants as many of his creations to find theyre way to him would he put so many books in our hands to lead us astray? arent religions seperating us and keeping us from creating peace, living in love and acting as would be right to be truly godworthy? if..religions must all be put here to lead us astray..then wouldnt the only way to..it (wont say him or her cause aint gonna assume its remotely human) would be to not know who what where or if of god but live life in the best way you can do, be, the best you can be. just in case..lol the answer, then..comes from within you, not books and stories..how many religions are there leadin ppl in opposite directions? if thereis as..dark force at work..and if thats a semi human whatever like ya think, what better way to lead every1 away but create religions...right? even within 1 religion theres dozens more what the hell are we doin? think aboyt it, were offered all these ways expected to choose 1 wouldnt they all be the wrong way except the 1 unknown?
There is one divine force, whatever you call it, that does not choose religions or groups of people. It is the "God" of all people and it doesn't play favorites. Religions are tainted shadows of the spiritual masters whose teachings were misinterpreted by those who didn't understand, those who hadn't reached that level spiritually. In some ways, it seems as though Jesus' early followers were more attached to the idea of who Jesus was than his message of love, tolerance, and non-violence. Slowly but surely, dogmatic beliefs were created that said "you must believe X and Y to be a follower of Christ." Those who didn't agree were labeled as heretics and persecuted much as early Christians were. Thus, a unified organization was built based on Jesus as the Son of God who needed to be worshiped. It seems odd that the New Testament does not portray Jesus as someone who demanded to be seen as a God or an Almighty Being, but rather a humble man who preached humility, love of all people, neighbors and enemies alike, and didn't associate w/ Jewish religious leaders. He associated w/ the scum of that society, the tax collectors, prostitutes, and lepers. Sadly, it seems the Christian hierarchy of the Catholic Church has replaced the Pharisees. This is not exclusive for Christianity, I feel that most religions began as spiritual movements but became corrupted by the ignorance of those who claimed to know the "truth" (as they saw it.) Peace and love
if theres a god hes probly questioning wether humanity was a good idea or not if hes even aware we exist think about it ppl pray for a the outcome of football games & crap & whatever god is if it is is so huge universes spring from its fingertips magicly god is in the creation, that religions been hell bent on destroying
