APRIL 4, 2008 Yesterday, thousands of people gathered in cities like San Francisco, Baltimore, and Washington D.C, to protest the Iraqi war. Signs saying "Love not war" "We just want peace" and others were tossed around the big crowds which flooded the streets. The New York Times asked what had sparked this event. John Haberr, a 17 year old from San Francisco replied, "We just want love." Many believe that the "hippie-era", which occured during the late 1960's, was an inspiration for this event. "Even though I wasn't alive back then, it seemed like easy going and care-free times," Haberr says. "That's all we want. A change in the way our country thinks of things." Although seemingly harmless, many are worried about the effects this might have on America's youth. Last week alone, marijuana use reportidly was 10% higher, and 3 people were convicted of producing mass amounts of LSD. Basically, I think we would be better off if we had more: Peace protests Young people devoted to the idea of free love ["hippies"] Free hug stands LSD circulation [LSD=less egotistical people=more love] I know a LOT of posts have been made to "bring back the 60's" and "start another hippie revolution", but I thought I should write my own. and yes, not the best written article. But this is realistically possible.
=) I agree, we definetly need more love and acceptance in the world. I also especially like the idea of a 'Free Hug Stand'...
If there's two things that the world needs right now, it's LOVE and PEACE. Time for a revolution, and we're going to be the ones starting it.
agreed.Everyone talks about this supposed new coming revolution... but where is it? people even say they can hear the rumblings... where??? I love the guy who started the Free Hugs Campaign, but there needs to be more. I believe it should be the anarchists who start first... shake things up, you know, and that'll begin the revolution! But I have a feeling something BIG is going to have to happen if any revolution is to actually happen... and I mean BIG.
YES! All we need is the media's attention to get a "revolution" going. And as much as I hate the media, we could use it to our advantage. I'm only 16, but that doesn't mean I can't make a difference. I'm just saying..maybe we could use these forums to organize a "love protest" or something. anyone interested ha?
Protests go on all the time, just look in the news. I'm afraid it'll take more than that to start a revolution. Something far BIGGER. I have a feeling whatever it is, it'll be set off by the anarchists once this government decides to completely take over. Than the sheep shall be gathered for the slaughter, and the smart ones will have to rebel and revolt.
if i could see all the names of the busch administration in the paper because they are on trial for war crimes, i would be pleasently pleased
that would be AWESOME. That's the kind of revolution I'm talking about. When everyone finally wakes up to whats going on and fights back... but it would have to be bigger. I have a feeling if we actually tried to get the Bush administration for war crimes, they would probably have some pretty powerful friends who would keep that from happening; like killing off the judges, liberals, people who speak out... etc.
I really hate Bush, but I'm less about government and more about spreading the love around. It's possible, but very unlikely that as much universal love in theat was in the 60s+70s will ever come back. But here we are on a hippie forum discussing starting a revolution even though we're not being as proactive as we think we're being. Unless someone comes out and says "Hippies are gathering next month at this address at this time to protest the government and this and that", then nothing can be done to start this non-existing "revolution". And we'll end with a quote from MokshaMedicine:Bless the careless happy acid freaks!!!
a revolution needs a powerful, radical, influencial revolutionary. but the people with those attributes rarely remain uncorrupt. lil things can happen for the hippy. but it will be the age of the computer geek to rule, theyre clever, multiple, angry and they can controll the wourlds new foundations, the world wide web.
