As you know, my dreads were put trough the roots by the friend who made them. Now i'm concerned that they won't dread ok. Should i be worried? That guy keeps telling me that i should keep putting the dread trough the roots so they won't get loose.

I personally don't do this/wouldn't do this. I don't like the look of it (dreads tight to the scalp look harsh and unappealing to me imo) and I've heard that it can inhibit locking (don't know this first-hand, but I've seen pics of it). Plus, it just seems like an annoying thing to do whenever there's new growth. I have like, 75+ dreads, so I couldn't imagine root flipping them all every month or so o_O

I wouldn't be too worried about the root flipping that was already done... it was just part of your personal journey. But definitely look into it more and decide for yourself if you want to continue this technique. The guy who says you HAVE to root flip has no clue what he's talking about though. Dreads tighten on their own just fine as they grow out. 2 inches (give or take) of undreaded hair at the root is NORMAL.

well people on the forum told me that they won't thicken if i keep flipping them, and i want my dreads to get thicker. I'm just worried that they wont dread at the roots because of that flipping.

root flipping generally causes weak spots later on.

when my dreads were still babies, they had root flipping done on them a couple of times by a loctitian! I stoped that over a year ago and my dreads are thick and they dread bythemselves nicely. You don't need it, let your dreads be.

happiehippie i see your dreads are pretty old, how are the spots they were flipped at? I'm worried that everyone tells me that they will be weak.
