Hey everyone, last year I had my ears guaged out to a 4 guage. I took them out because whilst drunk I lost one of my guages and figured now would be a good time to take them out.

Anyways my holes never closed up but they aren't big enough where I care. It basically looks like I have them peirced normally.

So here is my problem: I want to guage my ears out to a 4 again, but do ears lose resiliency after stretching them again. Would they close up just as good as they are now, or would they be bigger?

    Thanks for the help

You may have a harder time stretching them up again because of any small scars you have from doing it before, just make sure that you do it properly, i.e. stretch up one gauge at a time then leave it 6-8 weeks to make sure that it's properly healed so that you dont end up with any blow outs which arent any fun. (speaking from experience)

If you don't know what a blowout is I dont think it wise that you even attempt a stretch. Do some research first on proper stretching.

Yeah.... well I've already had my ears guaged before and I am pretty sure I don't need to know what a blow out is. Thats like saying I can't play hockey if I didn't know what a hat trick was, aka a stupid accusation.

lol no, you should difinitly know what a blowout is. i will educate you.

this is one of my blowouts-

a blowout is where the skin from inside your piercing (the fistula) is forced out the back. if nothing is done, it will heal that way and you will be stuck with it forever. blowouts are caused by poor stretching, for example: skipping sizes, stretching too fast, not using lube, using inappropriate jewellery.
it might be a good idea to educate yourself before making permanent changes to your body. i learned the hard way.
on every count, pomunus is right. its stretching, not guaging.

Screw the advice, you deserve a flame instead..

    1. Learn how to spell gauge. Is it really that fucking hard to get the vowels the right way around?
    2. Learn the correct meaning for the word gauge. Gauge is in reference to the measurement of jewellery. The words stretch and jewellery would be good for you to learn. I'm really how you lost one of your "guages".. this really makes no sense.. Unless you wear an oil pressure gauge or similar as jewellery.. this is the only logical explanation for this sentence I can come up with.
    3. You do need to know what blow outs are. Period. Even if not for yourself, for everyone else. It's stubborn idiots like yourself that make the entire community and practise look bad. If you want to do something with no concern or care for how badly you can damage yourself, just be a complete idiot and put a nail through your hand or similar. At least you won't be contributing to the plethora of fuckwits who constantly make body modification look horrible by being too lazy to do some fucking research.

    _end rant_

Yeah ... As I said before, I am just regAUging my ears to a size that i have recently gAUged them too before. I didn't get a blow out then, and I am pretty sure I am not going to get one after gAUging them the same way I did before. That would have happened the first time.

    Gauge gauge guage gUaGeAGDDE stretch.

I was just asking a simple question, I didn't need you guys to go on a blowout tangent. And just to reinforce my point, I DIDN'T need to know what a blow out is. "blowout" is just a word representing the action of my ear innards moving on outside. If I saw this while attempting to stretch my ears I am pretty sure I would realize my ear shouldn't be doing that, and then take them out.

But thanks for the information, I learned something new. Don't be so quick to flame next time ;)

Holy crap. Your a idiot. I really hope that you fuck up and learn the hard way that sitting infront of your computer for 15 fucking minutes to learn what can happen is worth while.

    Loser.

And for the last freakin' time it STRETCHING not GAUGING

    "Gauge gauge guage gUaGeAGDDE stretch."
    ^^^^^^^

yeah I know it's "stretch", I was just trying to annoy you (well, those that took offense to it, which in this case is you), and it worked.

And I am not going to fuck up, I clearly know what a blow out is now, so thanks for pointing out that i DON'T know what one is when there is a picture right there. And as I have already said, I have GAUGED [ ;) ] my ears before and didn't fuck up. I was only here to ask about the RESTRECHABILITY of my ears since I already had them stretched before, and then healed.

Sarah, you're first post was helpful but then you just flame me for no reason. You're "flame" doesn't even have anything to do with what i was asking, and I already said i knew what a blow out is now.... Guess you were just itching to flame someone?

Sheesh... sorry for not knowing the proper "ear stretching" jargon, but its my body and I know what its supposed to do and what isn't not supposed to do.

So I would like to thank everyone who has been helpful in this thread........... but can anyone finally answer the question I was asking since everyone misinterpreted it?

WHEN I take out my plugs (after stretching them back to my 4 gauges), will they heal up just as fine as they did the first time, or will they not close as tight since I have already stretched and healed them. (I am talking about scartissues, or just the general elasticity of cartilage).

    Thanks guys.

I've never seen blowouts on gauges as small as a four. Hell I've ran people from a 22 straight to an 8 with soft cartilidge(Talk the shit you want, but they knew the risks Can't force people to buy extra jewelry). It's not THAT deep in general. I also took my own ears from a 22 to a six in a matter of 7 days from the original piercing. More often than not it is folks who try to skip up too many sizes without a tapering crescent or rod.

On hard cartilidge it's a whole different ball game. Especially for conches etc. Not something to mess with.

You can't be sure of how you're body will react. Saying it didn't happen the first time so it wont happen this time is nowhere near true. Not to mention it's already been stretched, so obviously it will react differently the stretching now.

You didn't need to know, but you should. Knowledge is power. It is incompetant to go through without any knowledge of the risks due to being too lazy to do some research. Thanks to sites like BMEzine everything you need to know is right at your fingertips.
Also, if you saw it happening you'd take it out? Thing is, your ear isn't necessarily going to go pop and blow-out. It will most likely happen a bit of time after the stretch due to pressure applied, and simply taking the piercing out is not going to make it go away.

Anythings possible.. I've known people go from a gunned stud piercing to a 00ga in a day.. But its ridiculous and asking for problems. Also on a note, i have seen blowouts on a 4.. not as bad as a larger lobe blowing out but still very unsightly and obviously not a fun thing to have.

Onto the main questiong though. There is no definate answer. Everyone is different, and the techniques you use and way you care for them will affect the end result. On a guestimation, signs would point to a secondary stretch being easier with less ability to close up afterward. But it could be the complete opposite.

Well, yes, going from a gunned stud(22) to a dbl ot is rediculous. That's about a 3/8" stretch. If you've seen a blowout on a 4ga, then most likely somebody was trying to ram some sort of flesh tunnel or non-tapering plug into their ear. The key is to use tapered crescent earrings and tapering rods. With the right slope and good lube any stretch, within reason, is fine.

This thread is hilarious... but the flaming is a bit out of hand. Admittedly, I attack my friends when they use the term "gauging ears" but it really isn't THAT big of a deal. Not knowing what a blowout is, that's just hilarious.

But, to answer the question, it's dependent on the lobes. Take it just as slow as the first time and don't go too fast. It's that simple.

Do you all have nothing better to do than make fun of someone for not knowing something, or even worse, wrong terminology and poor spelling.
What's wrong with answering the fucking question seriously and telling him what you think the right word would be instead of flaming and being really goddamn arrogant? What are all of you even trying to prove?
