    Depends on where I've been...

Ironically, when I've been walking around the office barefoot, my feet are filthy, but if I've been outside in the grass, they're pretty clean.

Maybe I should hire a better cleaning company???

The times I've gone barefooting, my feet don't get super dirty. I don't know how I'd describe their appearance, but they really don't look charcoal black after barefooting.

It depends where I walk. Going to the supermarket, bank, or a street fair does make my feet pitch black.

Ironically, when I barefooted to a frat party, my feet were BLACK....But when I barefoot day to day, my feet are clean.

    It depends where I walk.

Here's how my soles looked right after I walked for an hour out in the country. The dew in the grass made them squeaky clean. I didn't wash them or anything after my walk and before the pic.

Here's how they looked after a walk through an urban area.

It depends on where I walk. If I walk on city streets, parking lots, stores, subways my feet get and stay pitch black. If my feet are coal black and then walk into a store or mall with smooth floors then I can get a coating of grey which contrasts over the black. Looks real cool! After mowing grass the tops of my feet are a dark, dirty green and the soles black from the streets.

*BIG NOD* That's why I don't walk around Baltimore barefoot.

Well, that and the fact that walking though the city is like playing hopscotch through a land mine of dirty syringes and broken glass...

I'm fortunate there aren't any needles and things where I walk in the city or suburbs. I don't mind when my feet get black. I do tend to prefer the natural settings, though. The terrain I walk on in the country doesn't have many hazards. No broken glass or anything. Just soft grass and soil that Mum Nature made. :)

I can tell where the teens and college crowd like to hang out at some of the parks. There's always some leftover glass from the beer bottles they break. It's below their dignity to take their empty bottles with them. The further you go out into the country, the less litter there is.

Some of the people that like to fish by the rivers are really lazy and irresponsible. They leave all their empty packages of their fishing hooks and pop bottles at the river side after they've gotten all their fish. They take from Nature and then dump all their garbage in return. Nice people.

Depends on where I'm barefooting and when it last rained. After a long mid-summer day in central London when it hasn't rained for a while my soles would get coal black, my feet would be black dusty up to the ankles and my toe nails rimmed with dirt. I really like to get my feet dirty and to feel the dust underfoot and between my toes but can quite understand why non-barefooters would think it disgusting.

    Isn't it horrible? :(
There isn't a decent natural spot within miles of my home.

    It's really depressing...

My soles, not just dirty, also tough from many kilometers of barefoot hiking.

I'm fortunate that there are some nice places in the country close to my home. I can go barefoot in the city, suburbs, or country if I like. I feel fortunate.

Sometimes I just take a bag and collect some of the junk near the rivers and things. No other people usually patrol those areas to clean them up, so junk can sit there for a long time. I notice it because I always go barefooted out there. It's not too bad. Just certain groups like to litter.

The rangers should ticket the heck out of those people who litter and then make them walk barefooted around the area so that they notice all of the junk. :)

Mine just get a dusty gray color if I'm out walking on paved paths at parks. Burning hot pavement makes them pink.

People just don't care when they're in shoes. I didn't notice a lot of this stuff either until I started going places in bare feet.

what is really horrible... i found the most beaytiful place, near enough deserted.. sand dunes and shrubbery n trees and was drifting around barefeet.. until i came to a few spots where people had had parties n then all along i was spotting knife shards of broken glass, twisted bits of rusted cans poking up here n there .. it so soo nasty.. i cant understand why these people would com all the way out 'to' such a beautiful place to have fun and then leave behind them a ... ...
also i found it odd.. that theyr were no full bottles or even big fragments together.. just scattered bits... is that the weather or do they smash them up before hand .. ahg aghh!!!!!

April, you are sooo lucky to have been able to go that long barefoot! I would love to have seen your feet then! What could be sexier than dirty bare feet that haven't been in shoes for two months?! :D

I myself spend most of my time barefoot, but unfortunately for the realities of things like shopping and work, I have to put on the barest minimum -- flip flops -- occasionally during the day.

The funny thing is, there is a local gun shop owned by a husband and wife, who are both from Long Island where I used to live, and I go into their shop now and then for stuff -- I have never worn shoes in there, and they picked up on this fact and we talked about it. They seem to think it's odd but cool. I told them that when I moved to Florida from NY seven years ago, I just decided I didn't like to wear shoes anymore, and now I can't stand to be anything but barefoot. We got to talking about my skydiving, and he said, "But tell me something; you DO put shoes on for that, don't you?" And I said, "NOPE! In fact, the last 104 of my 109 skydives were ALL done BAREFOOT!"

They got a big kick out of it. Really nice people. Never a WORD said about, "You can't come into a store barefoot!" :)

Oh! About how dirty my feet get:
Hardly very dirty at all. Most of my barefooting, unfortunately, is in suburban and semi-urban West Palm Beach. Occasionally it is at the dropzone where I skydive (always barefoot there from the start of the day to the end) or at the park where I play disc golf (that's another thing I always do barefoot).

Yesterday I helped a coworker who had a dead car battery in the supermarket parking lot. It was a filthy blacktopped parking lot, lots of oil stains and crap around, including ground-up glass. I ended up with a TINY sliver of glass in my left heel. I could feel it immediately, so I walked on the ball of my foot til I could sit down, and I was able to squeeze it out. Even as tiny as the thing was, it made me bleed a tiny drop or so! Well, this is a Winn-Dixie shopping plaza -- real low-rent chain of stores mostly in shit neighborhoods with shit clientele. It doesn't surprise me that their lot is full of oil and glass. By the time I got back to work, yes, my soles were oily black. So I made sure to walk on the clean concrete sidewalks in our parking lot, and barefoot on the carpets inside, until they were not so dirty anymore. :)

    Blue skies,
    -Jeffrey

April, I'm wishing you would post some more pics of your cute dirty feet for us! The ones you have on that link are GREAT! I love the contrast between your arches, which stay clean 'cause they're so high, and the pads of your soles that get so dirty! :D

Could you take more and post them? Oooh that would make me happy! :)

    Blue skies,
    -Jeffrey
