I proudly voted for Nader in 2000. Al Gore was not entitled to my vote in 2000, it was his job to convince me to vote for him, he failed to do so. If the Democratic party can not convince enough people to vote for them to win elections then they need to get better candidates.
I only fear it will hurt our already battered nation more than the democratic party. The democratic party i give two shits about. It's about finding a solution with the tools provided. In my opinion Obama is the tool to get things back on the right track, because he's the only tool with a snowball's chance in hell of defeating McCain. If McCain weasels his way in we're all fucked, plain and simple.
Obama is definately generating some of the same feelings throughout the country as JFK did.I'm not sure how to describe that feeling we had---maybe just--OK,now WE are going to be alright.WE will do some good things.WE are inspired -'somehow'."Ask not what your country can do for you.Ask what you can do for your country".It felt like WE were in 'it' together. It,I suppose was anything that would be good for america and make america a better place and US a better people. It was fleeting,of course--the conservatives saw to that.Since those days, what with Johnson,Nixon,Ford,Carter,Bush,Clinton,Bush--the lot of them mediocre at best and tragic at worst ( the current moron loser in office)WE could use a good dose of optimism and yes,CHANGE from what we've had.WE don't know what Obama can actually achieve--there's always the chance that the conservatives will use the JFK,RFK,MLK solution even before the election, but somehow his words are awakening something WE haven't felt in a long time.Maybe you had to be alive then ---yes,I'm sure of it--you had to be alive then to understand that of which I speak.Yes,he may be another hack politician that's just playing the game --there is a surfeit of those.However---however--I am hoping.Just hoping-- that WE can somehow see to this country as it's supposed to be "seen to".2cents.
Don't any of you oldies know what I mean?Wouldn't we like to have and show a less confrontational face to the world? To end this nasty bickering that really picked up speed with that philandering prick gingrich.
Gingrich was pretty awful, but the real blame for the success of the neoconservative movement in the past eight years falls on that rotten SOB Ronald Reagan. Reagan's supply side economics empowered the very wealthy with enough money to maintain their stranglehold of power over our country. Without the power afforded to the wealthy fueled by Ronald Reagan, we would not be in the current state of affairs. Bill Clinton ranks up there with Reagan and Bush II as one of the worst presidents ever because he never really did anything to stop the oligarchical dominatino of policy decisions by the wealthy. Corporate domination put us into Iraq, took your civil liberties away, and raped American citizen's pocketbooks for every last dime they were worth. Barack Obama is a breath of fresh air from Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush II. That being said, what is Barack Obama going to do to losen the grip of corporate interests on policymaking? What is he going to protect consumer interests? Will he appoint judges who don't bow to special interests like the current judiciary does? Forget healthcare, if the next president cannot accomplish the aforementioned tasks, you're not going to see healthcare.
One can only hope he won't be corruptable--but you never know. The power on humans of unlimited money is strong.I agree Reagan was bad.But frankly,WHAT repubs care for the working people of this or any other country? They've really shown their hand with this presidency.I believe that some day the era of unlimited capitalism that exacerbates the worst in human nature will be seen as the machinations of truly mad people. And we've all been and are being"good germans".(Apologies for the phrase, but it's apt).
As long as the voting public allows itself to be swayed by promises of what will be good for the market, and not give weight to other issues the US will be ruled by the corporate elite of the nation. I watched for weeks as different congressmen appeared on C-Span before the vote on NAFTA and admitted that they hadn't read it, but fully supported it because "quote" it was good for the market. Nader was the only one that had read the agreement. It has proven to have not been beneficial for any of the countries involved. Mexican and Canadian workers have not benefitted from it, the environments of none of the countries have benefitted from it, only the market speculators have gained anything from it.
I wish more people would try and break up the 2 party system. It isn't voting, it is choosing which of 2 douchebags you dislike the least.
