found them 1st and had to restart/spend days trying to fix after using theyre methods
found knotty know how 1st and had no problems
found knotty know how 1st and had to restart/fix

man... dhhq sucks. my first set of dreads I "made" according to the rules, with wax and weird chemicals. the shampoo was horrible, killer on my scalp. after that I tried the shampoo from knotty boy, and the scalp spray. the shampoo was okay, the spray felt nice but didn't last long, and made my head greasy. then I found the light. I love this forum. there is so much information, and everyone here is very sweet. and soaringeagle, I've always seen you as the forum papa. you look like you could be with those beautiful locks, beard and eyes. bless you!

"it is what it is, says love." it's from a very beautiful poem from erich fried, "was es ist," which I can't translate :) love is the only word I know in every western language. haven't figured out the eastern yet...

oh maybe should explain my individual experience..lol
had mine lots longer then had net
i restarterd once not so much cause they needed it but because of a school i went to (big mistake)
neither time had i even heard of backcombing wax anything, only thing id ever known about dreads when i started was that they would happen f i didnt brush or comb and thats all i needed to know
1st set though i didnt maintain well by seperating so formed a pillow behind my neck (confy) and 2 horns ontop of my head (creepy)
i ended upo cutting em after a year or so for school myb a year later started this set (eperating them more often ths time..lol)

never been to either of those sites except 1 time tried the knottyboy bar shampoo..after it ran out went back to bronners

Luckily I was already a member here when I decided to dread.

You guys showed me how simple it was.

I couldn't believe how easy it was.

What? No complex stuff to do? Just twist? Play? Let be? Wait? Love? Oh...

i used knotty boy shampoo and wax with my first set (someone gave it to me) and i didnt actually have any problems. the shampoo is decent and i didnt use enough wax to harm my dreads (except for one that i let a friend do, that one was gross). i still have the dreads and they are very clean and nice. i found this site about a year after i cut them off. everything you guys say makes sense and i love having the support of so many loving people as i make my dready journey. i also love being able to help people with their dready problems. kkh rules.

i had seen those sites and thought wax was the way to go, but when i went to the store to get my dreading supplies, i couldn't find any. so i just did it without and it was an excellent decision. have been doing the "neglect" route ever since!

    <3 kkh.

I actually bought a kit when I was 15 and it didn't work for me at all so I gave up.

I found knottyboy first and was so excited about getting dreads I didn't bother with any more research (silly me). So I used wax on my dreads at first. Then I looked for some internet forums on dreadlocks and read about the long term problems of wax and stopped using it.

Iv never used any products on my dreadlocks and never thought that it would help.
I kinda view it as impatience to do such a thing and therefor vain ( I know some peoples views may be different) I pretty much started my dreads on my own, but I learnt from observing others what not to do e.g wax

I found this place helpful when I have had problems.......like my scabby head, which is fine now thanks to tea tree oil.

I always thought I needed wax and I couldn't get any for my first set of dreads but I cut them off in the end 'cause I caught lice and my dad made me cut them off :(.

Second time round I had done a little more research but still thought I needed wax so I put wax on when I was back combing and although I put it on very sparingly it was soo greasy and took a couple of washes to get it out. I noticed as soon as it was out they started to lock faster too. But they are all clean now... I hope.

I cant say I wash them often 'cause they don't really get greasy and they always seem to have a pleasant earthy smell but I do use DHHQ shampoo as it is all I have for now. Maybe when that runs out I'll look into something else.
