Writing an essay on hippies for Jr. English and I need five sources I can cite. I have a few sections instead of paragraphs so that I can stuff more info to bring, since we have to make a powerpoint and present it. I am just looking for some material to cover in each section, here they are: (1) Intro (2) culture(style of clothing beliefs and lifestyles in general) (3) music and influences on music (4) People that are well known hippies or just similar types (5) Drugs events like gatherings and concerts and places like San Fran Eugene and other hippie hotspots. If anyone has suggestions or can offer alterations I can make to build a great essay I would be very thankful.

No, no, no. There are no hippies. There are human beings and they vary widely one to the next. There are some artificial categories people use (mostly marketing guys, pitch men, cops, and other shallow types). I use these artificial categories myself sometimes, as in my previous sentence.

Use of these categories typically does no good and often does quite a bit of harm.

Am I right or am I wrong?

Rather than deal in false stereotypes invented by marketing slimebags, why not choose to write about a couple of real people you're familiar with, especially if you approve of their lifestyle? If you don't know any 'hippie types' (as you put it) well enough to write about them as persons, you should pick another topic for your assignment.

If you insist on using the stereotype, you might do a book review of "The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test" by Ken Kesey, a book you'll likely find both informative and funny.

What do you people mean there are no hippies? Im considering it as a culture, "stereotype" it may be but it IS true. I fit the profile as a type of hippie. Everyone maybe be a different type of stereotype, creating they're own type of person but as a lifestyle I think hippie is definitely a group of people. And I cant say my own experiences, I would be arrested. Im not filling pages with bogus... Im writing about something that I can plainly see in front of me that I believe is filled with topic upon topic upon sub topic to tell people about.

Write about yourself and your friends, then. Change names and details where necessary to protect identities. Then hop a train to Wyoming (watch out for yard bulls), piss out the open door of an empty box car as it rumbles through the night, thumb down to Aspen, check out the food bank, steal someone's daughter, live in a snow cave with a copy of the Bhagavad Gita, trade in the first daughter for a different one, get ripped off buying animal tranquilizer sold as good acid, thumb to the coast, get busted for disorderly conduct in Golden Gate Park (SF) while ripped on real acid ignoring real cops that you think don't exist, drop uneaten purple wedge tabs onto the floor of Park Station cause you don't want to get dragged superstoned into Hall of Justice holding cell where they bring in this drag queen with his face beaten in, lip off at the guards (still flyin on acid) and get thrown in cooker cell Sixth Floor City Prison Hall of Justice City and County of San Francisco reading inscription on cell wall, "Get high by repeating God is Love."
