    That's good.

The thing is I can't see the problem with schools enforcing(encouraging) kids to get involved in local projects. This type of social inclusion and co-operation is exactly what our society needs. Schools should not only be about gaining qualifications but should also be making an effort to turn out more well-balanced people.

meh, being forced to volunteer a few hours in HS didnt teach me nuthin, especialy since i was already working (so i already did hte responsibility/show up for shifts/arrange your own shit thing)
i have been volunteering with a local arts festival for, um, 6 years now (the 7th will be this summer). over 100 hours racked up thus far, and i plan on continuing to volunteer with them for as long as i live in thsi city. fabulous place (tho you do get to see shows for free for volutneering so there is some immediate rewards built in heh)

I agree with Red and Fitz, and I think it is a very good thing to see more schools encouraging their students to become involved with their communities. The very fact that some are actually complaining at the idea of helping those less fortunate is pretty disappointing to me, would it actually kill you to lend some of your time to help a good cause? Because if not, what's the big deal?

I would jump on the chance, and you might very well learn more in those few measily hours that you would all semester in a classroom. This is what I really don't get, people can't stand to get involved with anything these days that requires any real effort. The sad thing is, community service isn't even really hard work, and is is very rewarding to the soul, knowing that you may have made a bit of difference in the lives of others, even if a small one.

Do the work now, and you will likely thank yourself later. Good luck.

i had to do 25 hours with around 1/4 of a year left before i graduated. yea, worked out to be 5 hours for 5 straight fridays. we got to pick out any volunteer activity we wanted, got friday off of school and did that. i thought it was great. i picked a place where i cleaned up waste, did some composting, did some basic construction...it was a great time.

at the end of 25 hours, we had to present what we did (if ya had multiple people at the same place, you could do group presentation) and had to do a paper on your own about the things ya did.

25 hours of CS, on the brink of graduating...i never got why people complained...we got out of school on fridays...4 day week and people still complained...
