I'm in the middle of reading it right now. I should be done with it by Wed (Got a 4 hour flight on Tuesday, so I'm guaranteed to finish at least a book or two on it).

I'm truly enjoying it so far. I don't particulary agree with all the ideas it presents... but I really like the way it's written, and it gave me an entirely new perspective on zoos.

I thought it was one of those feel good books at the end. Richard Parker is da MAN! or I suppose he is Da TIGA! My favorite part was when the hyena ate the zebera from the inside out while it was still alive!

...I just made myself sick typing this....But now its in your heads haha!

    So what did you think?

I liked it. I found the storyline quite gripping and spent a lot of time imagining myself on the boat. I'm not sure if ti is the masterpiece it was made out to be, but it was definitely worth reading.

I aggree, for me it suffered from too much hype. It was a good story, but overly descriptive (some readers enjoy this, im more interested in plot and character development). I like that the ending is left up to the reader. Its like an alternate ending on a dvd. I prefer the story to the authorities, thats what i believe is the true story. I didnt really get the spirituality aspect of it either, but being an atheist, i wasnt really looking for that. (I read it a year ago, and would not pick it up now had i noticed it said this book will make you believe in god, or maybe i just didnt care at the time, weird thing to say about a book though....)

I actually hated it. Pi was a completely uninteresting character to me, and Martel's imagery was nothing special. It seemed like a book that wanted to be philosophical and thematic, but failed. I kept flipping to the back to see how many pages were left until I was free of it. I wouldn't recommend it.
