Psst.. NSW makes up a third of the east coast.
Also, you and I live like ~25km to some of Australia's best beaches.

I think your head may be elsewhere.

Tweed Heads and Northern NSW is a beautiful area to explore, try lennox head and snapper rocks for surfing, they are my favourites, much better than what you will find on stradbroke island. enjoy

Hey thanks for the advice, Ive been checking out rainbow and snappers, which seem great because my friend having never surfed while im a advanced surfer will both be able to find something, as well as the odd trip for me up to kirra, where would you suggest staying in the area townwise, I will be without car so it must be bus, hitch, or walk accessible.

Try basing yourself in coolangatta/tweedheads, the area is nice and laid-back, very surfy and all those beautiful beaches like snapper and rainbow are an easy walk or bus ride.
This is a great place also because you are close to the gold coast where you can get to stradbroke from, and you can also take the bus down to alternative towns like nimbin, mullumbimby and byron bay. Its a really nice area, and friendly people and amazing scenery. buses are easy to catch too.
    good luck! :)
i live in the area so I'm happy to answer any more questions you might have.
