hah.. i seem to come here with every single dreadlock question i have.
i wonder if making so many annoying posts is allowed....
    bah w/e...

the problem i have come to ask about today is the roots of my dreads
as of today, they are 30 days old...
i've been kinda worried about my dreads but learned to ignore em a bit..
but i noticed that the roots are very, very loose.
    like.. normal, untangled hair.
and it's like up to an inch of the hair closest to my scalp
will this knot up eventually, or do i have a bad problem?
    i have straight, asian hair...

your roots will always have loose hair. It's where it grows in.. Otherwise your dreads would be very uncomfortable. The loose hair gives them their movement.
    and an inch? that's nothing

trust me, you don't WANT that last inch to dread up. my dreads are tight almost all the way to the root and it can be pretty painful.

30 days is nothing. they are going to probably fall out as well. all of this is normal and you just need to wait and they'll start feeling like dreads around five or six months and after a year or so will probably be mostly locked. then they just get better from there.

if they're only 30 days old, don't be worried about them. they are supposed to look like shit and not be dreaded and they will continue like this for another 6ish months.

i have about 1/2 to 1 inch of undreaded hair at my roots too. just rub and play with it to help it along. it will seem as though you washed all the knots out when you wash them. this is not the case. it's just that the knots are getting packed down to the dreaded part. this is GOOD!!! the first three inches of dread from scalp down is dreaded up really nice for me. this is where it has grown since i dreaded.

i know i hated hearing this when i was just starting out, but be patient!!! your dreads are just fine, and will be just fine. nothing can really fuck them up at this point except cutting. so you're good to go! :)

I have lots of loose hair at the top adn mine are almost 5 months now.
its just the new hair growing, no worries.
if it bothers you alot, just stick some beads in there to encourage them a bit
