I dont know it seems like no one is taking Global Warming seriously... I know its real and am trying to do everything I can to contribute to fixing the problem.

But have a look at this commercial from Australia... it's pretty out there... (for those of you Aussies - it has Emma from Big Brother 2007 )

Don't you think this makes the whole problem seem so trivial... ? Someone tell me I'm wrong!

I don't like it whenever people seem not worried about global warming. It may be happening slowly, but it IS surely! If it is not global warming, then it is definitely something going on that's NOT cool.

I try to contribute to help, too. I recycle at my school and use as little resources as possible.

Of course it's ok if someone wants to make fun of global warming (concerns). It's also fine if they declare cheesecake the best dessert, if they declare that Katrina was a punishment from God, if they declare that the holocaust never happened, if they declare that cats are better than dogs or that dogs are better than cats. Freedom of speech is a right that extends (or at least should extend) to all of us to say whatever reasonable thing or whatever batshit crazy thing we want.

Huh, so "now someone cares" AND "nobody cares now"? Well that makes a lot of sense, and isn't completely contradictory.

The way I see it, we can all cut back on our non-renewable resources or zilch them all together, recycle, reduce, reuse, and all that good stuff, and one of two things could happen. 1) We could prevent or postpone an inevitable dye-out from global warming, or 2) We could be completely wrong about global warming and *GASP* leave the world in a better condition than it was when we got here. Seems to me that there's no way to loose. The "problem" lies with those who don't have any desire to alter a few lifestyle choices, so they deny any benefit to the planet as a result of their choices. I'm not preaching that everyone should change everything, because that's really not logical for everyone. However, we can all pitch in as much as we're capable from time to time.

As for making fun of global warming, of course it's ok! I thought the commercial was funny! If the planet's getting warmer, you might as well have fun with it!

Beware the "greenwashing" associated with the global warming sky is falling crowd. We have much more pressing issues to deal with like nasty chemicals in groundwater, the depletion of our groundwater, threat of TYRANNY, eugenics, etc...

I have a feeling that global warming is just another "abortion" set up by the elites who know that it will deeply divide us just like the abortion issue. When in essence it is all based on speculation scientific and otherwise. There is nothing wrong with using less fuel or alternative fuels, stemming the emission of hydrocarbons, and those types of things. But we are letting this issue divide us again and this only serves to make the problems we face worse.

    Peace and freedom

I talk to people who don't believe in global warming all the time & what I usually tell them is that if you care about something, you take care of it & it'll last longer...that comment usually gets folks to see that it's more important to do what we can to keep the planet healthy than to debate about whether global warming is happening or not

I agree. If we waste time arguing if climate change is real, we won't deal w/ the problems of rising emissions, pollution, deforestation, etc. I don't understand WHY this is a debate. If it's happening, it will happen if we acknowledge it or not. If it's not, what would it hurt to lower emission, pollution, deforestation? I guess I don't understand why people fight so strongly against it.

BTW, who benefits from the denial of climate change? The companies polluting the air, water, and land. Oil companies. Auto companies. Companies that would be hurt if we stopped buying more and more cars, began to carpool, and in general became more eco-conscious. Personally, I think those who vehemently deny climate change are believing the lies that the so-called elite are feeding them. It's the elite that would be hurt if we started buying food locally and became less dependent on these corporations by being eco-friendly.

    Peace and love

One of the best ways to raise public awareness is to make fun of something.

Yup, and even a hostile attack can sometimes have a positive effect.

But essentially, we laugh at those things that frighten us. It's just a way of coping.
