I finally have several plants worth keeping, and unlike previous grows where I cloned-from-a-clone, I'd like to keep some mother plants in the 24hr room.

Are there any particular aspects I should pay attention to? Can they be put off to the side and not in the direct lamps? And re: ferts; do they need much over time?

    Thanks all.

do a bonsai style mother grow. as long as conditions are right you can keep them for years. all you will need to do is some pruning/cuting taking, and root trimming < google bonsai cannabis for guides and tips.

Ahhhh, don't worry about root trimming (I am assuming you are using soil as a growing medium) just prune them (for clones if needed) when they get too high. Keep them off to the side (this depends on how fast you want them to grow and how often you take clones). Only suggestion is that IF you plan on keeping them for a few years flush the soil once in a while to remove the salt buildup. Feed them periodically at 1/2 strength - bump it up a bit if a deficiency shows up.

    Thanks to both, appreciate it.

I'll take a look at the guide for bonsai cannabis. Just got to figure out how much to take off the tops, etc., and keep the plant manageable.

And BBill, I take it the watering schedule remains..."as needed"...but I just reduce the frequency and strength of the feedings?

Yep. You don't need alot of nutes for a dedicated mother plant unless you are taking alot of clones. It is easy to "overgrow" the veg area. Keep a watch on the leaves and adjust nute values as needed.

    Thanks....

Now if I could just figure out why leaves turn yellow in the flower room even though I don't believe they're being over-watered. I'm always plucking a variety of yellow leaves off from within the plants, or they crackle and I remove dead leaves.

Even after a variety of strains I still get yellow leaves before harvest. Someday I'll find the 'perfect plant'...ha.

I just added pics of my 3 clone mothers. I keep mine in the veg room under T5 fluoros and cfls. I have 3 more strains I am adding to my mother collection.
The Mothers in the picture I posted are Satori, MP5K, and Blueberry strains.

Yellow leaves in the last stages of blooming is good. The plant switches from using nitrogen to taking up more phosphorus and potassium and hence the yellow leaves. Do ya use a bloom food? I've found cacti food to be good.

    Thanks folks...

Nice looking clones, EdMun. They'll be bigger down the road for sure.

Rocklob: Yes, I use Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom, the latter during flower. My old 'shop' closed up and there's no good source for nutes anywhere around here so I'm somewhat limited.

Natural: Thanks for pics and tips!

    Peace to all...thanks again.

If i wan't to keep a small plant alive but not actually grow it bigger right away i use a small cupboard or box with just a 30w daylight CFL.
