http://1stmarijuanagrowerspage.com/how-to-grow-weed-1.html thats a really good guide. it helped me a lot when i first started growing.
The cannabis grow bible is a good book, you can buy it at borders. Seedbay.com and seedboutique are run by the same people, and its the best seedbank around imo. Icmag.com is another good forum.
If your using a credit card you have to be 18 anyway (unless its a prepaid Visa). If they ask just lie:leaving: .
Here in uk we have a free news paper type publication called 'soft secrets' very handy when I first started used t get it at the local smokers shop they should also do seeds if ya worried about buying online
yeah the grow bible's pretty concise. One thing he doesn't mention in the section that deals with maximum female ratio is soil depth for the seedling's taproot. He goes over basics that are useful for overall growing, but the thing that gives me more females than average is makign sure there are at least 5 inches of soil depth under the seed while it's first forming. The depth will encourage the plant to stay female, because it assumes it's in spacious and stable ground, and females need better conditions than males since they have to live longer and work harder. Sprouting the seed in a plastic cup with two or three inches of soil underneath and then transplanting to a deeper pot is going to hurt your chances of getting a female, IMO.
Interesting theory my man. I would guess it also depends on the genetics. I've seen certain strains take abuse like a battered wife and not go hermie and others flip if the wind blows from the west
I'd agree with that. They look a bit silly when they start to grow but I've gotten into the habit of planting my seeds in 7inch or bigger pots and get 7 out of 10 females. Just find it so much easier as I dont need to pot them on and disturbing there roots. use to use 4inch pots and repot after about a month but always used t get a 50/50 split.
Yeah it feels wasteful sometimes to put a seed into a large amount of soil, but if you're getting ratios like 7/10, it's totally worth it. I went about 18/22 females, then had a few males (due to unrelated stuff), now it's something around 25/35 so far
Thats a healthy enough spit 25/35, makes sense that in nature there would be more females then males. I think the biggest factor is stress and 4 young plants thats normally heat anything over 80 is bad for young plants. Food is another factor for growing ya really want high nitrogen and as little pk (phosphorus/potassium) as possible. I've heard that to much pk will produce males????.
Yes, I believe I've read that a nutrient imbalance can force males. I've never had the problem because I don't really give the plants nutes (except for what's in the commercial soil) till they have 4 nodes or so. Although the times when my plants suffered any sort of setback early on, there tended to be more males, perhaps owing to strain.
I only use new soil every time but water with just a trace of nitrogen based plant food about a 20th or less of the minimum dose and dont feed properly till I start t see signs of yellowing of the leafs.
