As I read the various threads, I am beginning to think I am a dinosaur and perhaps don't belong here. All of you seem so young. Any older folkies here who remember TV show, Hootenanny or saw any performers from the 60's or early 70's or remember the protest music from that era?
Hi 'espresso1' you are not alone! you are a few years older than myself....my main music era when I was growing up was between 1973-1980.....I have to think about the various bands I've seen (can't remember all) but Dinosaurs? hmmmm we all become one in the end don't we?
You youngins'ought to settle down now---I was around BEFORE rock and or roll.Try only having only Eddie Fisher,Frankie-boy,Andrews sisters,Rusty Draper,Big Bands,Pati Page,et al to listen to.Jeez----I was glad when some 'git down' music came along!
I saw Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee when I was a teenager in the late 70's as well as many Canadian acoustic folk musicians like Murry Mclaughlin and Valdy. I also saw Bob Dylan as well on his 1979 tour. I 've seen John Hammond in the 90's I like most music but acoustic and folk music has always been my favorite to listen to and to play. I like Phil Ochs a lot, and early Buffy Sainte-Marie. Maybe you should try Knutna Nävar, a rabidly political folk ensemble from the 70s connected to the Swedish Kommunistiskt Parti. That's as far as my old political folk knowledge goes. Never saw any of them live, of course.
