these are pictures i just took of my grow kit. its currently in the fruiting stage and i think i went wrong somewhere. based on what you see in the photos below, please tell me what to do to fix this problem. ***note: the soil is about 3-4 inches deep and below that is about 5-6inches of substrate. in the substrate, you can see greenish mould or mould -like substance. please keep in mind i paid about 400$ for this kit so i dont want to just scrap everything. please tell me if theres anything i can do to save it and if i can expect anything to come out of it. thanks for your time
I can't tell if that's white or green mycelium. But from what you said, if there is a "green mould" throw them in the bin this very second. Once a kit has become contaminated there is nothing you can do, I doubt that they became contaminated though the fruiting stage. This is worrying as you should have spotted it. Wear a face mask when binning them and place them in a bin bag of their own. Some contaminated kits give off spores that are poisonous, you don't want them in your lungs or you will know about it . .. Just note it down to experience, you have been very unlucky. You shouldn't have spent $400 on this kit. You can buy kits for $50 and expect great flushes. Tell me the site you got it off. If there is a green mould throw it away without hesitation, you should have disposed of them in the incubation stage.
the white stuff looks like baking soda. is that what mycelium is supposed to look like? im sorry if any of my questions seem stupid, im brand new at this.
No it should be white and a look fluffy. Do not touch it of course, but it is contaminated. You can'y save it. It's just unlucky.
It appears to be green mold. If that's the case, it's time to start over. Don't use dirt next time. There is no way to be positive that the dirt is sterile. Any grow kit sold that recomends dirt...is crap IMHO.
this kit of yours sounds extremely sketchy. i'd recommend throwing it out. read up on at least pf tek or other methods and grow yourself.
I have a feeling that this kit will not be sold again lol. I think your find you have been mislead, some kits come with a casing layer of dirt. What you should then do is mix with water and place in a microwave (I disagree) for about an hour. Your better off placing it in an oven, with more water mixed with it and baking the soil mixture. From the description on the mycelium you didn't do that. If you do try to do this again, post some threads. We will help you will the processes. For the time being, look up how your suppose to do it.
good evening everybody, i'm very thankful for all comments and help. i just tossed the entire project and it hurts the heart real bad. no mushrooms and out 400$. i wouldnt wish this pain on anyone. at this point all im thinking of is what to do to get back at those motherf*ckers that sold me this kit. guy told me that if i could make kraft dinner, this kit will be a breeze. i did every single thing i was supposed to. sterilized the substrate and the soil, maintained temperature proper lighting, everything. i dont know how it f*cked up like that. i will definitely be doing some reading for easier methods, but in the meantime, does anyone know or can recommend where to pick mushrooms in southern ontario? hope all is well. peace
Microwaves ovens are not hot enough to create sterility... also containe alot of unwanted bacteria... A Brand new microwave out of the box... Would sufice...
They aren’t hot enough? I think your find they are ...Look on any video or website on how to sterilize the casing soil. They will either say. Microwave, (It was an Idea . . . I also said not recommended) Oven Can it' and pressure cook Place in a pillow case and pressure cook. So you’re telling me if you put it at 180c for 1-1hr (Ideally that is too long, but will still work) that isn't hot enough. Pfft.
Someone posted a amazing video on a previous post recently. I will go back and see if I can find it and post it on here.
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=3286686859329905674&q=growing+mushrooms here it is... very informative
I remeber seeing this vid couple of months ago. It's such a good video, watch it newbies. You will learn so much!
A microwave oven is an evil box of terror and does really bad things to living material. this isn't a question of heat it's a different type of death.
Sorry man, that's Tric mold. You can let it fruit but your results will be poor. May be able to get something out of it though. It's safe to eat fruits off a contamed substrate.
