My dreads are only 3 weeks old. I understand that this is a very lengthy process, and I am completely fine with that, but I am receiving a lot of negative feedback about my dreads. I love my dreads, even though they're not even near mature yet, but a lot of people seem to dislike it. I get a lot of support as well, but I was hoping to get some support from those who really know dreadlocks, so I decided to post up this pictures. Please give honest feedback! It's okay if it's negative, I just need to know what I did well, what I did wrong, what I should do to improve them, etc. etc. Sorry, I didn't mean to write so much ^_^;; Oh yeah and I guess I should write what I'm doing... All I did after backcoming my hair is washing it every other day with Dr. Bronner's (peppermint) My scalp's not itchy but it has lotsa dandruff sometimes =/ Doesn't bug me but people don't like seeing that. And uhh.. I palmroll a bit but otherwise i just leave it alone. Anyhow here's the pics
you are doing everything right and they look fabulous for only 3 weeks. Don't worry about negative comments towards your hair... locks are an acquired taste and there is a lot of misinformation out there about them. Just explain what they mean to you and that they aren't dirty or anything. As they grow and become even more a part of you people's attitudes will change. Just give it time... Have a great knotty journey and don't give up on your beliefs!
hey, i must say that they look great for back-combed dreads after 3 weeks. give em a lot of time and they'll start locking up. keep your head up
dreads suit you really well and they look great for only 3 weeks. i had lots of negative opinions too and to this day i have never recieved a complement on them (except from the beautiful people on this forum of course) but you just gotta ignore them (the negative people and the dreads lol). you are doing everything right and theyre gonna be awesome.
They are looking good for 3 weeks mate. Your pretty much doing everything right...although personally i would wash a bit less, that might help with the dandruff thing. I always aim for once a week
=) thank you guys so much for the support i feel so much better already =3 i would wash less but i just can't help myself i feel too gross ^_^;;
oh haha i'm actually using an acct. that my friend made for me. I'm actually 16 =X sorry for the misunderstanding ^_^;; i oughta fix that up
What do you expect dreads to look like after 3 weeks? Certainly not as good as those! They're looking great bro, don't sweat other people. Dreads are a good look for you too. Dude, I used to shampoo my hair 3 times a day. When I decided to grow some Dreadies not too long ago, I decided it's best to wash one per 2 weeks. Maybe you should wash along those lines, because I think you're washing too much right now. Namaste, John.
dude your doing everything right. and i recieved soo many bad comments from people i knew and random strangers. but i just ignored them and stuck with it and now my dreads look pretty awesome(if i may say so myself). so, yeah just hang in there, man. they look good
my only recomendation would be stop the palm rollign - it messes with the flow of the knots. (so ive heard. i never do it)
i agree. i think palmrolled dreads are kind of boring, a lot of times they're all even and don't have as much character. if you like that look, that's cool, i just prefer mine with my lumps and kinks.
They are looking sweet for three weeks Keep up the good work and cut back on the washing (once a week is fine and if you must was more often just don't use any soap) mamos
They do look great. Your hair will not feel so gross after you stop washing it for a while. After the first week you'll feel greasy and oily, then your hair will go right back to normal. I have not washed my hair in 4 months and its very very soft, I think my hair is even softer now than it was when i washed it.
