Today is the Daytona 500. Growing up in Central Florida my dad and his buddies would drag me to that every year. They were big gearheads and even built car to race at Orlando Speedworld. I could never understand what was so fascinating about 40 slackjaw yokels driving really fast in a circle, except for the crashes.
It's fun in short doses. I used to love to go to dirt tracks and watch sprint and midget cars. Those are like 20 and 40 lap races and what not if I remember right. Nowhere near the dread of a 4 hour human-tail chasing session.
As much as I dislike NASCAR (I love road racing and drag racing), I have to dispute your claim, Posthumous, about it being made up of Yokels. Some of those guys have college degrees, LOL... And they are not rednecks, however NASCAR does attract millions of rednecks. I also like to watch Pinks on the Speed Channel. Drag racing - how fast can you get a car to go in 1/4 mile? So fun to try and find out!
