Some Australian basketball team came to play our basketball team. From the time they came, to the time I left, almost every girl and gay I knew couldn't stop talking about the "gorgeous" aussies. They exhibited all of the obsessive behavioral traits; Gawking, drooling, panting, squealing. To be truthful, I was actually jealous. I lost myself for a while and felt a sense of inferiority and low self-worth. THEN I realized what I was doing, and the stupidity of it was blindingly shameful. I let my thoughts and feelings be effected by the obsessions of other people. It’s a continuous psychological occurrence. Other’s obsession over an image sets a level of perfection; a standard that you have to meet. When that happens any quality you have that the image doesn’t, and the absence of qualities the image has and YOU don't suddenly becomes a flaw you see in yourself. You find yourself asking, "Is that what I have to look or be like to impress someone?" The fact alone that I can notice and describe it proves that, luckily, it doesn't really effect me anymore. At least, it doesn't effect me in a way that i give a damn. Though, i wish i had an accent. ^_^
G'day Bishiness, Australian bloke here! I agree with m.o.p....in that if you came to Australia you would have an accent over here mate. But then again I don't think you should just blame Australians, I reckon if a team of Pome's came over there they would probably get the same reaction.
Patmycat - Canadians and Americans really share the same culture - football, hockey, music, films, ethnicity. Here in the U.S., it is almost impossible to tell a Canadian from an American, unless you listen carefully to a Canadian's speech, and hear the "ooohtw" rather than "owht". And politically, we usually are on the same page, even though our government structures are different. And Australia, especially the stretch between Melbourne and Sydney, looks much like travelling from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Melbourne looks like LA, but acts like SF, and Sydney looks like SF, but acts like LA. Here in California, we like Aussies too.
thanks! that was awesome. i usually cant tell the difference between the two, unless it gets pointed out that the other is Canadian then i can tell by the accent slightly. but this is all over tv or online gaming [using the mic] i havent met an American in person =p and yea i have heard that the americans love our accent hehe
Apparently Americans love a Brit accent too.. never seen this in action myself. Maybe if I talked more like a posh git and less like a northerner/brummie (yeah my accent's a real mix). Nobody from the Home Counties let alone Americans can even understand me
for me, it's: Hello= "Hey, buddy," "yo bro!" or "what's goin' on?" Goodbye= "see ya' dude," "take it easy, man" or "talk to ya' later" if i'm talkin' to a friend
i have been complimented on my accent all over the world, (well in english speaking countries) im from southern england and have the typical accent portrayed on by englishmen in films. i love the asutralian accent
