I am planning a cohousing project in the Northwestern part of Washington State. We need members whom are willing to put in $200 a moth for combined food and rent! We will have a huge garden, hopefully goats, and chickens, a completly vegetarian lifestyle, and non manditory yoga/meditation times everyday! I'm trying to make this a young person 18-25 deal, but I'm flexible. The group will also travel together to gatherings, farmers markets, and the like so we need to be on the same page. So if you're interested in the ultimate granola lifestyle e-mail me, I plan to leave in November! -Guenevere __________________
Better make sure everyone knows what the plan is. i'll bring my lap top and nobody uses my toilet paper!! no meat? sorry i can't do this.
I know this is a little late, but I am planning on moving up to Washington in January, if all goes as planned. I've considered sharing a place in Olympia with some people, but I am pretty interested in what you hopefully have got going. I am very much interested in learning the ways of organic farming and I have to be somewhere where there is a garden for me to help out in and a beautiful place to co-exist with the rest of the life here. I'd be willing to pay rent and what not, I am pretty easy-going, I am good-natured, young, 20, I love hiking, swimming in the ocean, farmer's markets, spending real life with real people, animals, growing things, helping out. I am open-minded, peaceful and somewhat quiet. I love music, don't play too well, but I enjoy it all. I am definately a believer in God, I appreciate what I am given, etc. etc. anyway, i'd like to hear more about what's going on with this place. maybe we could meet up sometime in WA when I get up there..?
uh....just where will you find the housing for these people who're paying $200/mo. for rent AND food? dream on, honey...........
oh, yeah, the tennessee experiment YOU are advocating (and not giving $$ facts on) is sooo much better? I maintained a house for three in Oklahoma on $500/ mo., urban. If seven people are contributing and a garden is going, things would be tight but not impossible. quit popping bubbles. Everyone deserves to learn and have experiences.
First of all, NW washington is MUCH cheaper than the Seattle area. If there were 8 people contributing $200 a month ($1600), that could easily pay for housing and food, especially if you are growing some and have chickens and milk/cheese available on the property. There are also a lot of farmers markets that you can get an assload of food at, for really cheap... so before you criticize someone, check your facts.
I had a house on the olympic penninsula and paid $850 There were 4 bedrooms and a basement that could have easily been converted into two or three more. The one problem there though was jobs. There just weren't any. Good luck though!
good luck and keep it going! also, check out www.portland.indymedia.org there is some interesting stuff going on in Portland having to do with transforming public spaces into more rural areas, ya know, stuff the states loves oh so much!
