Step 1: Get a blunt weapon, such as a baseball bat.

Step 2: Drink some red bull (or energy drink of your choice.) You're gonna need some energy.

Step 3: Now get a firm grip on your weapon of choice; draw it back, and proceed to pummel the fuck out your computer.

Note: It may be necessary to repeat step 3 several times. Don't half-ass it.

It's probably a heat problem. You may have a bad cooling fan or the dust inside has built up to a point where it can no longer keep it cool. If you have a temperature monitoring program on your computer then I would check to see if the temp is getting too high.

hmm last time i had that problem the computer would get to the login then restart when i tried to login. BUt i wouldnt think cooling would be a problem since its 60 in here (i got a temp guage outside the comps and its only 68) and right by the window.

But ill try opening her up and look at the dust build up and put a desk fan at it and see if that helps.

    Thanks for the suggestions Donski.

    And pharmaphunk its not wireless

    I'm glad I could help.

Don't feel bad, overheating is a common problem with computers even when it's cold in the house. Double check all your fans to make sure they're working properly, and get some compressed air to blow out all the dust. Make sure when you're blowing out the dust to get the heat sink fins on your processor, and also blow out the power supply. You'll be surprised at how much dust comes out, so I suggest doing it outside. I try to blow the dust out of my computer twice a year. ;)

Just hope it's not your hard drive going bad, if it is then backup everything as soon as you can.

The computer that is giving me problems is the download computer so if i lose anything it isnt a big deal (the whole point of having this computer).

I wouldnt be suprised if the harddrive is going bad its pretty old, i think my dad had to run some harddrive repair software on it to get it to work.

if it was dust you would see it all built up on all the fans. i built my computer so i clean it pretty often whenever i see dust building up anywhere. i use that duster and then i had some electronic wipes to get out the blown off debre. if the computer is just turning off after a few minutes its probably something is getting to hot and shutting down. im guess most likely its the power supply but its possible it could be the processor but dust usually causes that so if you clean it good the fan should cool it down.

It shutting off after a few minutes was an old problem i just mentioned and a different computer too. Its just the internet that quites working after a couple of minutes.

Well if it doesnt somehow fix itself ill just go my usual route and reformat it.

i just used the stock cooler from the intel core 2 duo that i put into my computer. my idle temps are only like around 34-36 and my load temps never get above 55-60 and ive put some pretty heavy stress on it a few times.

btw i got one 120mm fan in the back sucking out and 2 80mm fans one sucking in on the side panel and one blowing out on top. plus the fans in the power supply. then theres one on the graphics card that i had to replace since the stock one started making horrible noise.
