I'd like to hear your experiences about it. I took Rosie to the vet today to get spayed. It went well, and now she's just sleeping in her bed looking totally out of it. So anyway, do share your stories. How long did it take for your dog to get more active again? And most importantly, did spaying/ neutering affect their personality in any way? I know vets keep saying it doesn't but it still worries me. Rosie is the sweetest dog you'll ever meet, she is so friendly, fun, clever, affectionate... I'd hate to see any of that changing.
I spayed Penny when she was a puppy, so I can't really speak for a difference in personality. When we brought her home, she was active again the next day. She did stay 3 days at the vet mind you.
I had my Austrailian Sheperd/Sheltie, Ollie Pup spayed a few weeks after she found me at our local animal shelter and when she was about six months old. I scheduled her spay operation on a Friday so I could spend that night and the weekend watching over her recovery which was thankfully brief with her feeling better by Saturday night. I found no major changes in her behavior after the spay, except that she and I knew that we would be there for each other through thick and thin and forever and always. I do remember the evening when I went to get her as though as if it was yesterday, since I handed my car keys to one of the veterinary technicians asking her if she would help us to my car, since there was no way after I lifted Ollie into my arms that I would not put her down anywhere except on the many soft blankets I had piled up for her on my front passenger seat, right next to me for our ride home. I believe the most important thing is to keep an eye on your dog's sutures for either swelling or redness along with making sure she relieves herself without discomfort and with your tender loving care I have a feeling you Rosie will be back to her normal self in no time with the only change being her improved health and long life.
Aww thanks, that made me smile Well, last night was pretty rough for her as she kept crying a lot and she just couldn't settle down and get comfortable. But today she seems a lot better, she's very alert and even interested in toys again. The only thing I'm a bit worried at the moment is that she hasn't really been drinking much and has only peed a couple of times since she was spayed yesterday morning. But apparently it's normal? I'm keeping a very close eye on her, and my boyfriend has taken the rest of the week off from work just to stay at home with her and pamper her, heheh.
cute Its very normal for animals to act like that. I spayed my 2 Fmale cats --- and i caught my fat cat Seanna humping lol her teddy bear. Shes a a yellow fuzzy blanket she cannot depart from hides under or over top of, and jumps into the pile of toys she decided to hump the teddy bear. *** also make sure that the dog doesn't chew where the stitches are*****
I had my ~1 year old dog dale neutered about two months after i adopted him. He bounced back within 12 hours, and after three days of not walking in the park, he was bouncing off the walls. he has become a lot more active since the operation. he always had a pretty high energy level, but before the operation most of that energy was directed towards sex. now that he doesn't have a sex drive, he commits more energy to chewing his toys, barking at random stuff, guarding/herding my other dog, and running on walks. aside from his canine adhd, he's a little easier to handle, especially around other dog.
