The Soviet Union was more prepared for an economic crash than the US

I was surfing along, doing my daily reading today when I came across the following article:

This guy brings up a great point with some really strong supporting evidence, none of which I could refute. I thought I would post it here so we could discuss the issues at hand and talk about what people plan to do in light of what will probably happen well within our lifetimes.
