i just thought its interesting that phenylalanine, a chemical in diet pepsi could be biosynthesized to Phenethylamine, witch can be synthesized into psychedelic drugs like mdma and the 2c's. Im not saying "how can i do a chemical extraction from diet pepsi" that be a stupid question, But i never notice this until i looked at the warning on the can. very interesting to me
its in anything that has protein in it. its an amino acid. so according to the analogue law (australian ones anyway), milk, meat and, apparently, pepsi is illegal. i guess thats why it doesn't hold up in court to often
well as far as i know its a sweetener that turns into phenylalanine in the body? the reasons they put it on the is that some people cant turn it into phenylalanine, so its dangerous for them.. or thats what ive heard
Somehow I'm doubting this assumption - if you could synthesize 2c-i from diet pepsi I think that'd be pretty crazy. I'm gonna go with the assumption that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Doesn't seem impossible, or even hard... just need to eliminate the carboxylic acid group, maybe using the Hunsdiecker reaction, then a substitution reaction to eliminate the Br. that could get you phenethylamine. from there it depends on what you are hoping to get. im not sure but i dont think there is very much phenylalanine in diet pepsi, would just be better getting a box of artificial sweetener or phenylalanine tablets at a dietary supplement store, sold as amino acids.
I don't know what kind of diet pepsi you're drinking, but I've never seen a warning label on the can before like you said you have. -DP
nar its phenylalanine itself that is the problem. people with PKU are defective in the phenylalanine hydroxylase enzyme that removes phenylalanine from the body hence they can't eat or drink things with phenylalanine in it caus it builds up in their body. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenylketonuria
