Does anyone here like Brautigan? I've just finished reading Confederate General from Big Sur and The Hawkline Monster. He cracks me up! I love the minimalism that permeates his work.

Trout Fishing In America is a fantastic book. Very funny and moving. Some academics dismiss him (like Bukowski and Fante), others call him nothing but a delusional hippy but I think he deserves his place as one of America's finest writers.

Trout Fishing in America is a seminal work of postmodern literature with its juxtapositional structure and parodic treatment of the loss of the pastoral in modern America. A brilliant work.
