I'd say go with Tangerine Dream - The seven letters from Tibet.. that's about all I can think of on the light side of the spectrum.

I can help you out with the ambient done.. But the ambient- drone folk?- is something I havent encountered. Ambient and drone is almost always based around electronic instrument with a sustained sound- often keyboards, and folk uses acoustic instruments which have a short sharp sound. big difference.

Tangerine dream is good- upbeat, awsome 70's synth sound. their album 'phaedra' is their best work.

Klaus schulze is highly recomended- minimalistic, cosmic soundscapes.

    Arvo part- minimalist classical composer.

but hmm, now that I think about it, most drone ambient is dark lol

you've never heard guitars in electronic music?! man, i'd hate most electronic music without them, especially ambient.

thanks for the suggestions though, i'll have to check them out. listen to Elixirs if you want some free quality drone folk... dude fucking gives it all away for free!
