He doesn't really deserve to live. But we as society should come together and have the most rational responce to protect the public. Not killing everyone who we think had it coming.
Quesy issue for me On one hand I completely oppose it as a society But I know if anyone ever murdered a family membe of mine I would love to see him/her fry, then revived, then fried again while getting glassed and battery acid shoved in their sphincter
I wouldn't want anybody to have to die for killing me. That's all I'll say about that. I'm not even sure I believe in life in prison with no chance of parole.
had a convo bout that yesterday, actually. what I think is that.. death penalty's easy. giving someone the priveledge to die instead of rotting in jail for the rest of their lives is really easy, and kind of a favor, in my opinion. but I don't believe in revendge. you do shit, life will get back at you, one way or another.. even just.. feeling extremely unhappy and guilty for the rest of your life is more than enough..
I am all for a death penalty but it would be only after a major renevation of the system we have now. I would put my number one vote to be that anyone while in prison who commits an act of violence against another inmate (rape, stabbing, ect) should be killed and damn fast, like by days end. I for one am kinda pissed that we have elderly in this country that have less spent on them for thier care then what we spend on some dip shit. I am also pretty pissed we send some little punk teen to prison for something stupid like dealing or stealing a car for a joy ride. Kick the little fuckers ass make him/her do some major community work and call the debt paid. I could write a book on my beliefs on this but then we would be so off topic so I just say yes to the death penalty but not under the current system we have here in the US.
agreed. the system needs an overhaul, but some motherfuckers still need to be killed. No more jail time for smoking weed and victimless crimes
i don't believe an infallable legal system can ever be devised, and once you've killed the wrong suspect, it's kind of meaningless to say "oops, sorry about that". there are other problems with the concept, but for me, that is the big one. =^^= .../\...
I'm 100% opposed to the death penalty; there's nobody on this earth with the right to decide whether or not someone deserves to keep their life. I do think, however, that serious criminals are getting off much too lightly and something needs to be done to create an actual punishment for these people. But murder should never be an option.
I WAS always completely against the death penalty as a youth, but time and experience have somewhat made it a grey issue for me. I cannot say that I advocate it, because of the possibility of misscarriages of justice, which are plentiful in this world. But for serial rapists, repeat child sex-offenders, what is an appropriate punishment?
Lock 'em up forever. Sure, it'd be more satisfying to kill these people for a lot of people. That doesn't make it right.
I wouldn't find it satisfying to have them killed. Unfortunately, I just don't want these people to have any kind of life though. The thing is, that no matter how hard the time is, they still have friends and a life of some sort on the inside. But on the other hand, isn't it just as morally wrong, if not even more so, to take away a person's liberty forever as it is to just kill them.
The point of prison is to sequester them from society, so they aren't a danger to it. They gave up their right to function in that society when they committed said crime. What if we're wrong and got the wrong person? We'll if we incarcerate them, we can at least try to make amends. If we murder the innocent... well that's not possible. And sure it doesn't happen often. But it happens. Law is about protection not punishment. It's hard for that idea to be upheld when we murder people when they're distasteful to society.
I agree with the mistakes thingy. I mean there have been plenty of examples of Irish people being locked up by the British for bombings they did not commit. After years, they eventually got freed. If Britain still had the death penalty in the 70's, these guys would have been murdered. How effectively does locking a sicko up with other sickos for lengthy periods of time, and then freeing him with very little opportunity of retaking a place in society, protect us?
Recidivism is a separate issue. Our prisons in their current form don't work very well. You oft take first time offenders, lock them up, and when they get out, without any opportunities, will later become repeat offenders. That's why I think our judicial system should focus more on rehabilitation. I'm in no way saying that our system now is ideal. I think Rubin said something earlier about reform it completely or do nothing, which seemed too silly of an argument to approach. Of course complete reform is ideal, but you've gotta take these things one issue at a time.
As I said, I'mnot hung up on the idea of the death penalty...but when people say it's wrong, I just don't see it as being much different to locking somebody in a hell-hole for life sans parole. A personal question now...Would you personally kill somebody who repeatedly abused or raped somebody you love?
I guess the humanity of it depends on who you ask. And me? I try not to think about it. But yes. I would tear them apart. I would kill them. Hell would be respite for anyone who fucked with people I love.
I too would kill in that situation which is why I think that the death penalty should probably be allowed. Why should people like me or you, who would react like this, go to prison when the state could do the job for us?
