Does anybody know any good crocheting patterns to make a tam? I've found a few, but they're a bit hard to understand since I don't exactly know all the crocheting terms and such. Thanks in advance...:)

Haha...it's like one of those big floppy hats that you can hide all of your hair under. Kinda like an over-sized beret...sorta...lol.

i don't have a pattern for you, but they're not too hard to make. you just need to know how to crochet a flat circle. this means you have to increase a few stitches each round. i never had much luck with patterns that tell you how many increaces per round. if the edges start to curl up, you need more increases. if the circle starts getting wavy, you need less increases. you just sort of feel as you go. if it's not laying flat, just rip out the last couple of rows and redo it. and then you just continue until you have a big circle, then you start to decrease in the same fashion, until you have an opening just big enough to get around your head. you can do it in a spiral or by crocheting back and forth. i hope this all makes sense. after you make a couple of tams, it kind of becomes automatic and you don't even have to think about how to do it.

Thanks guys...:) I actually found a pattern that works...but I really miscalulated width and length...and now I have a fucking HUUUGE tam...haha. I mean, it's the biggest hat I've ever seen...lol. And my hair isn't that big yet. It just looks really, really funny. I look like a human mushroom when I put it on...:) Sigh...I guess I'll have to try again...haha. Thanks for all the suggestions...:)

check out your local library for crochet books. but beware--once you learn how to crochet it can become addictive!
