It seems my friends and I are on this subject a lot lately...I usually have pretty democratic views on things, but I do agree with some republicans on the point that no matter how small a living thing is, it's still alive. Wanted to see what some of the people in the forums think. =)
My boyfriend and I practice safe sex, we go to Planned Parenthood all the time, etc. But if i EVER became pregnant, I would definately abort. Why? I don't want to have kids. EVER. I don't like kids, they annoy me and it would only be a financial and emotional drain; I'm an independent person and I want to focus on my life and my dreams. I don't want to be held down by some little screaming brat. Why not just adopt? I'm sure as hell not going through labor. Sorry. I like my figure, i DON'T like PAIN... No one's forcing me to go through that.... ugh... no baby is coming out of my vagina, srry
Whenever we talked about this in school my answer always was and remains, "I don't care either way". I've always found it funny when people from either side try and "recruit" me to their way of thinking. Just on a side note, I did see a Pro Abortion bill board yesterday :ack:
If you believe abortion is murder, don't have an abortion. Just b/c you believe this doesn't mean everyone else does or should. Your personal values should not be more important than someone who has different values. Would you really want meat to be outlawed b/c some people believe eating animals is murder? No, you wouldn't want their values (and opinions) take precedent over your own; why should the abortion debate be any different? To the OP, do you believe the death penalty should be allowed? Peace and love
Prrrrro choice! Yeah, hippie chick - I'm always surprised by how many people are anti-choice but pro-death penalty. How do they get that to work in their heads?
Government and religious folks have no business sticking their ugly head inside women's vagina. Having a baby, it's a personal thing. I'm pro-choice.
Exactly, how can you say that you are pro-life when you do not value the life of an adult. I see those signs that say "Abortion stops a beating heart;" what does lethal injection do? If you claim to be pro-life b/c you value life in all stages, then why aren't you protesting the death penalty, as well as war? Seriously, how many lives are lost during war time- that's why I think Bush is pro-death, no matter how much he tries to pretend he values human life- oh wait, he only values lives that he feels are important. The lives of his troops, Iraqi and Afghani civilians, and convicted felons (guilty or not) either 1.) aren't human by his definition or 2.) not worthy in his eyes. Peace and love
Pro-life. and to answer some of the previous posters, there are pro-lifers who do oppose the death penalty and war, and while being pro-life might stem from a moral or philosophical stance (as does being pro-choice) it doesn't neccesarily stem from a religious worldview.
Those who DO oppose the death penalty and war as well as abortion have the right to call themselves pro-life. My point was that if one supports the taking of life in war or capital punishment, one should not call themselves pro-life. They are anti-abortion or pro-death in 2 out of 3 cases. I am pro-life for my own personal choice, but I still support the right of women to chose for themselvs. I wouldn't have an abortion, but I'm not going to tell others what their values (whether religious or otherwise) should be. Peace and love
pro-choiceish ... or it depends. in the event of rape or incest then yes pro-choice if, for the reason that having a baby would ruin your figure or your vacation to Jamaica then NO
i don't think it's hypocritical at all, those are unrelated issues. i'm sure there are also pro-choicers who are not for "choice" regarding issues not involving abortion, but when discussing abortion it wouldn't be inaccurate to describe them as pro-choice. those terms are only meaningful in the context of abortion and fertility, so yes you can support a war and support capital punishment and oppose abortion and it would not be hypocritical to call yourself "pro-life" as that term only really applies to the abortion issue.
If you claim abortion is wrong b/c it is murder, then how can you say that the death penalty is not murder? If you say that you support life in all of its stages, then why is it okay to stop life during the adult years? Yes, it IS hypocritical to say that killing is okay in one situation and not in another. If you are pro-life, then you must support life in all of its stages and if you can't, then don't call yourself pro-life. If you don't like the term anti-abortion, create a new one that accurately represents your position that abortion is wrong and one that doesn't make prenatal life more valuable than adult life. If I claimed to be Christian and then said I didn't believe in God, would I really be a Christian? Or would I just agree w/ parts of it and not actually be Christian? Peace and love
no it isn't. example: killing a person because you want to steal his car. murder. killing a person because he's in the process of stabbing you. self-defense. killing a person because he's stabbing someone else. defense of others. killing yourself. suicide. killing someone with their permission to ease their pain and suffering. euthanasia. abortion is not war, war is not capital punishment, capital punishment is not abortion. different issues. regarding the rest of your post, again i could claim that pro-choicers are really pro-abortion, because they don't believe in choice in other areas, for instance if they are opposed to the death penalty then they are opposed to the judge and juries having the choice to use capital punishment. those terms are meaningless outside of abortion and they serve just fine as they are.
Agree 100% ^^^ I'm mainly pro choice, but its funny becuase maybe an hour ago me and my father had this discussion
Personally I am against abortion. Politically, I think it should be legal and safe. I have no right to forcibly push my opinion on others. As stated before, I wouldn't want meat illegal, even though some firmly believe it is murder. I don't want to have to have a male protector, even if some people think women should have no say. I am also anti-death penalty and anti-war.
