I ave seen a lot of posts lately about people saying always say yes and some who say always say no.... if a cop asks if he can search your vehicle always say yes.... because when you say yes he is just gonna do a quick 5 minute search of your car... when you say no... he radios another cop with drug dog to come and even if u dont have drugs a dogs owner can teach the dog to trigger at certain voice commans so it will give them lawful reason to search your car without your consent and then they will search every square inch of your car because when you say no, pisses them off, and then they know for a fact you have something on you, and it increases odds of them finding it dramatically...

unless they smell or see drugs or u look stoned then they shouldn't be really allowed to call the dogs. i mean, thats just abuse. and why would he bother? just be nice and kindly say "I refuse to consent to a search - i am late am i free to go?" thats what professionals advise anyway. I personally am not sure though.

the last time i consented to a search the cops spent 45 minutes going through my car. it was far from a"quick 5 minute search". so dont be so naive as to assume that giving a cop consent will automatically get him to half ass his job..

as far as you not having to wait when they call a drug dog in(as some have suggested here),, yeah just try and drive off before the dog gets there. ill see you when you get out of jail...

no cop ever does just a half ass job searching a car. ive been pulled over 3 times for speeding and all 3 times i have had my car searched top to bottom. two of the times there were a couple cops searching. before you say yes to them searching you car, ask them for a legitimate reason why the feel the need to. otherwise they really have no right at all to search unless they have reason to believe you have drugs on you (smell of weed or you look high) lucky for me i never have weed in my car unless im pickin up

If you consent to a search, you're screwing yourself over. Maybe the cop will just give your car a cursory glance and let you be on your way, or maybe he will radio in for all of his friends and proceed to thoroughly search your car. If anything is found, the search will hold up in court because you consented to it.

If you do not consent to a search, then there is always the possibility that the police will let you go. There is nothing suspicious about refusing to consent to a search. Many law abiding citizens do it because they hate the police, value their privacy, or whatever. In my opinion, your behavior, including your body language and how you talk to the police, is much more suspicious. Maybe the police won't let you go and will call in a drug dog, but they need to care enough to do that and have those resources available to them. Even then, you might have a chance of having any evidence they find being thrown out in your suppression hearing if they held you for no apparent reason.

The DEA agent in those videos that have been so popular lately is highly trained in the crap he does and was an interdiction officer. In the US, it takes more training to be a beautician than a cop. Additionally, most cops do not specialize in drug interdiction or any other area for the matter. Many local cops get payed a pittance and only became cops because they were too incompetent for other jobs after they left the military or flunked out of college. It's not that hard. You can't be too fat and have to maybe take a written test in some states, but people taking the tests who were in the military generally get extra points added to their scores by law. Of course, this all varies by state.
