For all of you that says it helps with depression/stress, I found that my stress/depression really got better after I quit smoking for a week, so the weed may be the source of some anxiety too. Now i'm not saying this applies to everyone, i'm sure some people were depressed before somking and it helps them cope, but just make sure the weed isn't the source of your anxiety like it seemed to be for me.

    I smoke for several reasons:
It makes it easier for me to have regular sleeping patterns. Before I smoked It would take me sometimes a couple hours to fall asleep regardless of how tired I was.

It also allows me to think in a different manner than I am used to. If I am stumped on something smoking will some times allow me to look at the problem from a different angle and come up with a solution or at least get me closer to a solution.

I smoke when I mountain bike because it helps me to get into better cardio shape. As hypocritical as this may sound (smoking and exercising) It really allows me to get into a zone in my mind where I can continue riding at a higher effort for longer periods of time without having to stop. It allows me to sort of practice a mind over matter approach to biking.

I also smoke pot alot when I am skiing and what I get from this is a more creative approach to skiing. I will pick out lines on a trail that I usually wouldn't see or think to try.

I'm not going to lie I also use it because I like the way it makes me feel as well. Its a great way to relieve the stresses one will encounter throughout the day.

i get so much stress and anxiety during the day from just being at school or work, so a bowl at the end of the day is fantastic

    right on

Its also cool to smoke & ride a bike, or swim. You get the floaty feeling that weed gives you and then the gliding sensation of the bike or of swimming, along with removing the separtation between yourself & the world around you. It's like the world has something to say, and you can pick up on the vibe. Weed also speeds up metaphorical thinking - good for getting all kinds of deep meaning out of movies

    Social thing
Feels good to share the love of weed, a bit of being a badass (lol?) and for being a minor 'drug' its damn good
It makes my day, almost like a really small acid trip
    all emotions brought out
    a warm presence
Things taste better, smell better, sound better, relaxes my mind (Im an insomniac)
It makes the world even more beautiful

When I first started smokin' (39 yrs ago) I did it because it got me nice and buzzed...I laughed and had a ball. Over the years it has become much more. My medical conditions (arthritis, severe back pain and HepC) are somewhat delibitating, so now I smoke to get relief from pain. I get a mild buzz, but the relaxing factor is huge, removing the constant pain from my mind. It doesn't exactly kill the pain, IMHO, instead it makes it less prevelent in my mind, so I don't think of the pain so much...the medical benefits out shine the buzz factor, for me...

    Peace...j.b.

I started smoking simply because i was curious...
Though I did spend a lot of time researching and whatnot (make sure it was safe)
I continue smoking because its fun, makes me feel good,
and i do seem to be less of a prick when im high...

nah, I totally remember when I used to feel like that. It's like every anti-drug friend or parent or teacher you have just starts to get to you, and it hits harder when you're at an age where you're not totally comfortable with yourself yet. I think and hope that this is part of his growing up experience, and that someday hopefully he'll be secure enough to just not care or even take in other peoples' criticisms of his own life. I think that's a major part of what growing up is about.. I know it has been for me.
