smoking before exercise?

    I'm thinking about getting in shape. Like, building muscle, I'm pretty skinny.
    I was wondering if anyone smokes before they work out? Does it help? does it make it suck?

    personal preference.

    for a short period of time i used to lift, and i often went to the gym while high. it made it more enjoyable for me, but to many people it would make it less pleasant. i thought it was great, though.

    I hate working out stoned. The last thing i want to do after a nice joint is go to the gym. although reverse the situation, and thats an equation for sucess.

    I smoke when I bike, it seems kinda hypocritical you know smoking then doing cardio, but I swear it makes me ride stronger. I find I get into a zone and can ride harder for longer it sort of like enables my mind over matter powers or something.

    it depends on the person....many people can find they can narrow their mind and focus in on something better when high (so long as there is some sort of motivation...for me, i wanted to be in better shape to please my girlfriend....lame, but whatever, its still motivation)

    many others find they are more lazy or more easily distracted when stoned.

    for me it can be either way, and depends on a lot of factors.

    in my view, i'd say that if you normally smoke a lot and are able to perform most tasks when high with less stress and effort, than smoking before exercising is a great idea. on the other hand, if you smoke only occasionally or find it harder to motivate yourself when high as opposed to when you are sober, then i'd suggest smoking AFTER you work out.

    either way, so long as you dont hurt yourself while working out, THC+endorphins=happy camper

    I gotta find where I read it but I also read somewheres that if you are a heavy cannabis user working out can actually trigger a mild stoned effect. Since THC is stored in your fat cells and you burn fat while working out it releases the THC and can make you feel slightly stoned after a good hard workout.

    to my understanding, THC is not stored in your fat cells. THC metabolites are stored in the body, but the actual THC is metabolized and leaves your system fairly quickly.

    as i understand it, THC does not get stored in the body. i do know that UA tests are checking for THC metabolites and not actual THC, but i do not know for a FACT that THC is never stored in the body. so, to my reasoning, saying exercizing will make you stoned if you smoke heavily is like saying drinking the urine of a heavy cannabis smoker will get you high.

    in reality ANYBODY who exercises will get "high" from release of endorphins, which are essentially endogenous opiates/opioids (opiate is derived from opium, opioid is a synthetic or semisynthetic opiate...i do not know which is appropriate in this context as an endogenous substance is neither part of opium nor synthesized in a laboratory)

    so regardless of whether or not you smoke, you will feel GOOD after working out, whether or not you smoke...

    like i said, this is based on my own limited understanding....but not only that, but my personal line of logic and reasoning....i am entirely open to the idea that i could be wrong about THC being stored in fat cells, but as far as i know it is a myth, similar to the idea that smoking pot kills brain cells at a higher rate than smoking tobacco, that smoking seeds will make you sterile, or that smoking pot is more addictive and harmful than drinking alcohol (while pot is capable of being harmful and addictive in some people, both qualities are to a lesser degree than what alcohol exhibits)

    perhaps THC is in fact stored in fat like many people claim...i can't say that what i understand is what i KNOW.....so....maybe you're right. but based on my understanding, i still must disagree, at least to an extent ;)

    Ahh found it. Its not having THC in your system its that people always have a form of cannabinoid in their system that is released from exercise. Read this its much more informative than I can be.

    hmmm....i'm too drunk to read it through, i doubt i'd retain much of it.

    but the only endogenous cannabinoid i know of is anandanine, or something like that. i may have misspelled it....

    is it about that? if so, if its released during exercise i'd be willing to wager it is for a similar reason as why endorphins are released...

    I couldent agree more. Biking high is the best. I just feel like i have unlimited energy, and no matter how steep the hill my legs just keep on churning. Not to mention its really fun.

    anandamide Yeah it goes into how both anandamide and endorphins are released but because of anandamide being a lipid it can also make it to your brain and scientists are starting to beleive thats what truly behind the "good feeling" you get after a solid workout.

    I love smoking after exercise. I don't think I'd want to smoke and then go to the gym and cause my lungs anymore abuse.
    I just don't think I'd feel very good exercising stoned either. I'd rather have energy and not have cotton mouth.

    But after smoking feels so good.. It's like a really relaxing experience.

    back before i got kicke out of my house i used to lift everyday
    on a normal day id smoke 3-4 bowls before my 2 hour workout
    (mostly cuz i walked to the gym 30 min worked out 2 hours and walked back so it gave me a reason to get out for three hours)

    and i lifted way more than i could sober
    only problem is if you get to stoned you can hurt yourself lifting to much and not noticing
