So it's almost a month of me not combing my hair, when is the best time I should wash it? Like every week? I usually wash around that time period, but I just want to be sure.

Also, I notice that my hair is more knotted on my LEFT side then my right, that's normal, right? I don't think that matters..

Lastly, how should I go about "ripping" my knots into dreads, should I just wait a few more months or can I do it now? Does it even matter? I don't think I even know how to do it, lol.

Thanks guys, bear with me here! :afro:

I think you've got the right mindset with the "that's normal" and "does it even matter" things. Wash you hair when you feel like it needs to be washed. Rip when you feel like it. I'm pretty sure either way they'll turn out to be good lookin dreads.
    goodluck

Seriously, just do what ever you want. Wash when it feels like you need to, rip if you want them ripped apart. It's your hair, mate. Some will tell you to do all sorts of stuff to it, but it comes down to just not fucking with it.

    washing:

Depends on your hairtype. When I first let my hair go I pretty much washed the same amount I did before because my scalp is oily-prone. The more dready my hair got the less often I'd have to wash since the dreads soak up the oils (ew. but true). Now I wash about 2x per week give or take. Don't stress it, just keep em clean... once a week is just fine :)

    knotting speed:

same thing happened to me, same side even. I sleep on my left side and you probably do too... don't worry, the rest will catch up.

    rippin:

when I started my hair was almost down to my bum so I had to rip every day to keep em under control, plus I wanted my dreads to form relatively uniform in size so I kept up with the rippin. So really, this depends on what kind of dreads you like. If you want "neater" lookin natties, rippin is key. If you like phatty congoes, rip em much less. Some folk never rip... but contrary to what some people say unidreads or helmut heads CAN happen and can be quite uncomfortable so I'd think twice about never rippin if you want them long term.

    good luck! :)
