I'm getting a new dog and I'm trying to think of some cool names. Right now Im pretty partial to Roy for Roy Batty of Blade Runner(if a boy) but Im not sure yet. Im picking up the dog this next weekend so I have some time. Any suggestions for me to consider?

O ya, I dont know yet if it'll be a boy or girl since I'm adopting from a litter.

It's hot and humid down here but not too hot for a husky. We do have air conditioning for the summer, and if you keep their hair short during that time, they are fine.

I had one in highschool and it would clearly be uncomfortable in heat above 25 degrees - and thats northern BC. I think you're picking a poor breed for your area; it won't be able to excercise outside for long stretches (and they need lots).

Cutting their coat doesn't actually keep them cool; the fur insulates against heat as well as the cold.

Lots of people smoke. Doesn't make it good for them.

I just can't figure out why you'd want this breed if you live a)where it's hot and b)in a city, when there are a million more suitable breeds.

Because it was offered to me for free adoption from a litter. Its not only a husky, its a mixed breed I believe. My best friend grew up with a couple of huskies, they likely have been uncomfortable at times in the summer but we do have air conditioning down here. Or maybe your husky was a wuss.

i never even think of names till i have the dog, then i usually take a few days to decide on a name.

dogs all have different personality's,the dog should be your guide, after all its there name....

First of all... a husky will be fine in Houston. It has a lot to do with where the dog was born and raised as a puppy. If it was born and raised for the first 8 weeks of it's life in houston, it will be fine in houston. The important thing is to continue it's environment, meaning if the puppy was born and raised indoors, he needs to be allowed to live indoors all hours of the day during the warmer months. Houston IS admittedly pretty hot and humid for ANY dog with a lot of fur, not just huskys. But if you watch the dog every hour you are home and pay attention to his health and condition, he'll be fine. (Any dog owner should do this. people who leave their dogs in the back yard and never even look at them except once a day do not need to be owning dogs.)

Secondly, I agree with HHB. I believe naming a dog is important, and that you should wait until after you have the dog before you name it, and give it a respectful name that fits it's personality. The reason being is because what you name a dog inevitably has an effect on how you treat the dog for it's life. It has to do with your own mind and psychology and how what you name your dog affects you. :) He'll be ok as "puppy" or what I call them, "puppylove" lol until a name is decided on. :)
