good afternoon everybody, I'm a new member and am very happy to find this site. I don't know of any place in my country (Canada) that has wild mushrooms growing. also, i'm not the type of person to eat something i find out in the wild. for these reasons i have turned to grow kits b/c i havent been able to bump into anyone that has any. below are 2 links to sites that i'm considering ordering from. i'm just wondering if anyone here has heard of them or can recommend them. thanks for your time. http://www.amanitamushroom.com/mushkit.html http://www.canadianhempco.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=22&zenid=9d7f0ad9d01491e718c6b3bbdd4aa45d
The second link looks way better. Of course grow kits are often a waste of money. I doubt you'll actually get any spores with it. Wait for more advice...
thanks for the reply. i emailed the folks at that website and they said it comes with mycelium, so i wont need spores. from what i understand, getting mycelium instead of spores is like getting clones instead of seeds. please correct me if im wrong
Comes with mycelium? Wth Bascily mycelium is the "Mold" the first stage of the growing process. The "mold" will then take hold of the substrate and you will have to the force it into the next stage which is the fruiting stage. The best advice I can give is that you look it up for around a week before even considering growing. . *That was the simplest terms I could put it without becoming complicated* It is so much easier for yourself then, as you know what you need to do. Most grow kits *DO NOT* Include the spores .. And I have never Heard a kit come with ready grown mycelium. Revise a Bit, once you have come back on here and I'm sure everyone will help you the best way they can. TIP: Do not buy the grow kits, most of them are a rip off . .. Good luck
heres a list of what the kit came with: -burlap sack of substrate (hay) -clear mixing bag -mushroom casing soil mix -a vial of casing starter -spray bottle -a jar of mushroom spawn the steps are: STEP A- pasteurization: sterilizing the substrate STEP B- spawning: seeding STEP C- casing: providing a top layer of soil STEP D - fruiting: maintenance and harvesting heres a quick overview of what im supposed to do: STEP A boil water. turn off heat and soak burlap sack for 25mins. turn on low heat and simmer for 35mins. let cool to room temp. for 3hrs STEP B put pasteurized substrate in clear mixing bag. crumble spawn and mix well with substrate. place bag with mixture in storing container and press into corners and along sides. pack down firmly. fold top of bag down loosely and not seal, important that it breathes. place in warm dark place. constant temp. between 26-28derees celsius ready to case in 12 days. *AT THIS POINT THE SUBSTRATE WILL BE GROWN THROUGH WITH MYCELIUM AND WILL APPEAR WHITE. STEP C add 1.2 litres of water to casing soil bags and mix for 3mins. let sit at room temp. for 3hrs. mix again thoroughly and let sit overnight. microwave for sterilization then let cool to room temp. add casing starter and mix for 1min.pull bag edges over edges of storing container. sprinkle soil over substrate and level with hand.do not pack down. fluffy and airy is best.spray inside of container lid then place on container. tape edges of lid with duct tape. put back in dark place wit same temp.(26-28degrees celsius) for 5days. STEP D expose kit to light for 12hrs daily. 25W max at 1meter away. lightly spray soil daily, it must not dry out. temp. should be 25-27. THIS IS WHAT THE INSTRUCTIONS TOLD ME. I'M VERY ANXIOUS TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS, COMMENTS AND OPINIONS. THANK-YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS, have a ncie day/ lunch
It sounds theoretically possible. It also sounds unlikely to work. I've never had good luck with hay. And the sterilization process of the hay that they gave you seems weak. Good luck though, you never can tell.
thanks for all the replies. when i bought the kit i asked how difficult it would be. the guy told me if i could make Kraft dinner, this will be a breeze. f*ckin liar. blind/deaf folk can make Kraft dinner, but i would bet my car and home that they couldnt make mush with this kit. hope all is well and i'll let you fellas know how it turns out.
