    Love is a fascinating concept.

A concept I try to not describe logically, it's just seems to be one of those things that you don't rationalize, philosophize, or question.

    It just is.

    Bingo.

Same applies to Karma; the Law of Nature, something that was always here, and just is.

The force (if you can call it that?) Love is a very odd concept. I categorize it in the Spiritual section. Man.... I don't know what else to say, it is very hard to articulate myself when it comes to this. I guess I'll end this with a quote, which I tend to do alot.

"Love can mend your life but love can break your heart."
    - Sting and The Police.

I shed tears of joy a couple weeks back. I was drinking with some friends, and i was in a really bad mood, then out of no where a couple tears came down, but i was smiling like i never have.

Love it what it is, just like Pavel said. It's crazy, beautiful, scary, sad, exhilirating, calming, just indiscribable. Love is very bittersweet, in it's most basic form, but it truly is as complicated as those who experience it.

I think what BSR said is a total cop out.
We can't come up with definitive answers, so we say that you just don't bother looking.

The way I see it; it's a very personal matter. Others can give you pointers and tell you things that worked/failed for them to help lead you down the path, but the real answers lie within yourself.
Do I have it figured out? Enough to satisfy me for the moment. Maybe that's all we can hope for.

Now, onto the OP. Again, it's all very personal. I think loving can definitely be harder at times, especially if you love the wrong ways/people/in the wrong conditions/etc. I had very hard moments in my early experiences in relationships; but as much as I wanted them to be at the time, shortly after, I would realize that it wasn't love. I find love to be the easiest most comforting experience I've ever known. Maybe, I have the right conditions; maybe, I'm just the right person. Maybe, I just have the right definition of the word.

If you find contentment without love; more power to you.
I think on a broader scale though, all those happy in their lives have their own form of love. That doesn't mean it has to be in relationships.

    Peace & ??? ;)

Love is just not something that I feel like I have to describe.

It's a tad beyond description. I'd much rather show it.

I can't say I disagree with you too much there.

If you think about it though, it's really interesting how little terminology sorrounding love has advanced in our language. I think maybe part of why it's so hard to describe is people too long assumed it was too hard to describe.

I don't think that there's a single entity in the world that people have tried to describe more than love.

What's every other poem about? What's every other song about? What's every other story about?

Love is food for the soul.

You should love to live your life , not live to love another.

It's odd that so many people feel the urge to get "really attached" to someone they love, it's suffocating,, and it never makes a relationship stronger..

My 20 yr old nephew does that shit, he dates 17 & 18 yr old girls and treats them like he can't live without them,, and he pushes himself into their lives demanding more and more of their attention to the point where they get scared or sick of him... and they run him off with his tail between his legs every time.
He is a very loving person, but he wants so much love in return... so he has turned into the king of broken hearts.

You should love to live your life , not live to love another.

Yes, but that's all through external description and comparison. I mean, these thoughts aren't fully developed, just musings, really. I just get this feeling like there's something we missed.

It seems to me like it's a lot more complicated than it has to be. Maybe, in part, because of everyone trying to describe it through the likes of verse. All the different versions and ideas about it so intermeshed that we can't seperate them.

    Edit: I fully agree Love_N_It
Many people's definitions of love sound a lot more like addiction to me.

    Attachment is:

    - Based on fear
    - Enslaving and controlling
    - Causes suffering
    - False
    - Selfish
    - Seeks external approval
    - Comes from ego
    - Focused on taking
    - Forceful
    - Cold
    - Needy
    - Ignorant

    Love is:

    - Based on faith
    - Freeing
    - Causes Joy
    - Real
    - Selfless
    - Follows the heart
    - Comes from spirit
    - Focused on giving
    - Respectful
    - Warm
    - Needless
    - Wise

I read that over two years ago in a blog. It always stayed in my mind. I think it explains well the difference between love and attachment.

Edit: I had to fix that mess :)

I see your point, but I think that analyzing it and searching for something complicated, some structure in love just takes away from it.

I love the purity and simplicity of love. It's so easy to fall in love, and yet so wonderful.

    I agree!
You can share your life with a partner, but you can't truly be in love with someone else... unless you love who you are first., as an individual,, with no one else in your life.
True love takes a strong foundation, very few people experience that because they spent all of their lives looking for someone else to love them,,, instead of learning to love themselves first.

I wouldn't mind taking away from the universal term 'love' the negativities that are attached.

I see a lot of young people these days waging wars against love. I don't wanna see what kinda world we'll have when the majority abandons the ideas of family altogether.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a priest years ago. He asked me what I thought the message of the bible was. I told him that I thought it was about loving others and some general guidelines for a 'good' life.
He disagreed. He said that it was about loving yourself, and gave this quote,

"Love your neighbour as you love yourself." - Mark 12:31

He reckened that as the message of the bible was love, that it was most important to love yourself cos if you don't love yourself first, you can never truly love another.
